Hello,

When I insert a decal on a brush it shows up on the 3d camera and the compiling is fine. But when I load the map in the game it doesn't show up. I'm sorry but I don't understanding the tut.

hmmm.... i have the solution:

your not using a decal with { in front of the name, load decals.wad
into hammer, in the texture browser, choose it, then rifle through the textures pick one then use it on the wall

Or you might also have it inside another solid brush, i.e. a wall. Check that as well.

Are you using the decal tool (Ctrl-D) or are you using an infodecal entity placed manually?

Also, make sure you run Half-Life in OpenGL. Direct3D is kinda buggy with Half-Life, like decals not showing up.

i find that if u dont select the selection tool and the apply decal tool it dont work also u may not hav the decals in ur half life directory as i downloaded a map ages ago and later added decals.wad then i felt like playing map again and suddenly there were loads of decals i never saw before so that may be ur reason : :( ;)

no, i know whta hes talking about
i have the same problem
i followed the tutorial PERFECTLY i read each and every word
(wich i dont usuially do)
i place a decal in the 3d view and i can see it show up in the editor
i seems as if it would work perfectly but when i go to comple it, it does not work
the decal just simply does not show up
(i have the decal.wad in my folder and everything)

Well, are you using the proper decal textures?
They're all white-background with { infront of the name.

yeh i was trying to use "{target" and "{hrpoint"
i selected them from the browse window, selected apply decal
flew over to a wall (using the camera in 3d view) switched to selector
(made sure apply decal was still active) and clicked the wall
the decal showed up. i unclicked apply decal and saved and tested.
map worked
no errors
no decal :(

i MAY have jsut figured it out but i wont be able to comfirm until tomorro
i use Counter-Strike Retail or full (or w/e) 1.0.0.0 to compile my maps and for somereason i havent been able to get the game running completely.. good i guess. but good enought to test/compile etc my map.
so i think in my c-s 1.0.0.0 has something wrong with sprites in game
i cant even see my own player spray when i use it so.. ill have to try it in
1.6 but that will ahve to wait till tomorro

try typing gl_polyoffset 4 at the console.. of some other number instead of 4

Sometimes decals won't appear on some brushes, try manually moving the decal entity slightly away from a wall / brush .

did you try triggering the info_decals? give them a name and put in a trigger auto to trigger it.

Hmmmm... You create your own decal??? If you create your texture and put it into other wad (different to the decals.wad) it will not work... I try many ways, but doesn't work... :(
My solution is, Create one texture that contain your decal.... is a "Fake Decal" but work.... Worst, but work...

Strange...

I've seen some maps with decals in their .WAD files, and they show up on their maps...

But when I try to extract and put that same decal (A/B bomb sites) into my map, it won't show up... but all other decals from the original decals.wad will show up on my walls...

So Seventh... you're saying we can't make our own custom decals ???
I'd have to disagree with that one... but has anyone gotten it to work properly?

Yes... the it has the { prefix with a pure white background...
