Hi Im making a TFC escape map called school where you must escape from school. Im currently working on a classroom and I have everything done except the lights. Most of us are familiar with the classroom lights that stretch all the way across the roof. How would I go about getting that into my map. I made a long bar 1 unit thick and textured it white but I don know how to add light to it. Also how do I add a switch to turn it on and off?

Well, there's 2 types of light;

the entity light, which can easily be switched on and off and has multiple "styles" but gives unrealistic results, if used wrong
and
The texture light, which gives better results but are alittle harder to make "switchable". Search the forums for texture lights for info.

I think you should go with the texture lights.

Definitely texture lights, especially for long-bar fluorescents.

it is realy easy if you have the half life wad they have wads for those lights and the switch is easy name all the light entities the same then make a box with a light switch texture an go to entities go to func_button select there will be a targeted object option click that and type in the name that you named the lights then last of all click the flags option select the switch to be touch turn on or to press e select how you want the to turn on there :cool:

I know how to add a switch, I know how to make it work. I dont like any of the halflife.wad light textures I just want to know how to make a bar I made that stretches the whole room emit light.

uhhh.....beamer....ive NEVER seen a room at has ONE light encompass an entire classroom. texture lights are the absolute best unless you want them to switch on and off. (env_render wouldnt work with a big room im guessing)

To make your texture light switchable, you'll have to use ZHLT 2.5.3 Custom Build 1.7. See http://collective.valve-erc.com/data/docs/1034150354-69206000/files/instructions.html.

Texture your light with whatever texture you want and tie it to an entity like func_wall.

Specify that texture as a texlight either in lights.rad (see the Textured Lights tutorial) or with an info_texlights (better method).

Group the textured entity with a light (see the instructions in the url above on how to do that).

The textured light is now switchable.

I just cant figure out how to do this I have read the tecture lighting tutorial about 4 times and it makes almost no sense. Can someone do a step by step on how to make the white bars in www.gotbunkered.net/school.JPG into a light.

Your better off using the lights.rad and using one of the fifties_lgt (I think) textures. It looks like the ones they use in a classroom.

Also, your walls are unscaled :(
