Someone could make a multiplayer map where the level is inside a train and players are able to be inside and ontop of the train, and the level around the train moves and whenever a play joins that player sees the train arrive at the station so they can get on and noone can get off the train, and then starts moving again untill another player joins.

if you could make the background move instead of the train you could still use entities inside the train

The backround moves but then it stops once a player joins to pick that player up.

Sounds intruiging, i must admit i have thought of it, but never been bothered to do it, so good luck if you do try it.

There is a way you can do this. As they said, have the backround move. The whole train should not move. The ground near the train moves, and has a trigger_hurt with the type of death as fall clicked. When someone joins, they could be in a helicopter of some sort, up in the sky, in a different section that the train. When they jump off the helicopter, they fall down, and land in some sort of water, or area, that does not harm the player. This would be on the train. From the helicopter, which is btw stationary, they could have a number of choices of where to jump from.

This is the best way I see this possible, whether it be CS, CT starting in helicopter and killing terrorists on the train. You really couldn't do it in a game like DM, cause people would camp and kill anyone coming onto the train. With teams, and many choices, one can actually get onto the train.

Hm, on reconsideration, you could possibly do something with some func_trains named 'game_playerspawn'... see the HL Entity Guide.

Why not keep it simple and spawn on the train instead? Like they did in UT and UT2k4...

I mean, why can't you get out of the train but you can enter it? That's not logical. I understand the importance to the gameplay but it just doesn't fit with my common sense... and after all, spawning on the train is much easier to accomplish too...

I like Bratty and Capt's ideas. I still can't see the train stopping to let people on and off, but it would be cool--subway of death!

Have a runaway train scenario like the end of Broken Arrow or that Steven Segal movie. You can leave the train, by jumping off, but it kills you.

No, actually I like the idea- put a trigger respawn outside the train so if you fall you'll end up on one side of the train(your teams side of course)
You would also need a func_push on top of the train set low, and watch out for signsor you'll get dragged of the train to your death--- It could also be like a capture the flag idea too You'd have to be carefull though with people coming into and out of the map, with the surroundings constantly rotating- will effect your frame rates- and may cause your player to go sssllllooooooowwww.- Other then that great idea lucky4444
