I require a programme like WinBSPC, you know to make .bsp files into .map files, all the links I've tried don't seem to work, can anyone help me? Note: Wally links are also not working...

I wouldn't ask about getting a decompiler here, it's generally frowned upon in the mapping community. If you really want to find out how a map was done, why don't you just ask the author. In most cases I would actually send the source to the person, or the part they were interested in.

Me too, but it might be a VALVe map, y'know - I mean, I think they're a little busy for that!

Go on Google. Type in WinBSP. You should find it it one of the first links. That's where I got it.

decompiling is scum
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-03 19:18:58 UTC Post #3898
decompiling does not imply scum, however scum may imply decompiling.

Besides, what if I created a map editor that worked with bsp's directly? I bet you'd use it! :P

No we wouldn't, because it would be crap and somewhat fictional. You can't perfectly decompile bsps, like you can't decompile an exe back into its original source. Also, hammer is a great editor, why use a totally different editor for a pointless, and very questionable, feature?

T'd be pretty sluggish, too, since your 1337 editor would have to update the BSP tree the whole time

The only reason I need Winbsp is to decompile a Sven map I made then carelessly lost the .rmf.

I used WinBSP once when I was in the same situation as Waylander. It is absoloute s**t! Excuse my language. But it is! It creates leaks! And doesn't load textures even if you have the correct wad files in the right directory! Don't use WinBSP! It is utter s**te!
m0p m0pIllogical.
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-04 17:38:43 UTC Post #3948
the texture problem is caused by the very many "prepeluar axis to face blah blah blah" probs that come on all the brushes, just "fix all of this sort(or whatever)".
i donth think people use winbspc to COPY other material directly, they(and me) use it to check how you do things, how the properties should be set etc etc.
Posted 20 years ago2003-11-04 20:31:07 UTC Post #3970
WinBSP simply takes the BSP as it is and tries to convert it to a mappable form, of course its full of leaks and errors. The BSP itself is very different to the rmf/map you create, its 'compiled' in order for the engine to run it efficiently.

i agree its not ethical if you copy anyone elses material, but like i said its mostly for learning.

I'll bear that in mind.

decompiling ur own maps is fine. just doin it 2 others is just plain evil.
