how come when i compile my map, my lights make light in one direction, only that little spot, and the rest of my map is pitch black? should i just get another compiler? thanks for any help in advance

you should have zonars compile tools, ther the only ones that work well.

and give us a little more info, are you using point based lighting or texture lighting

What entity are you using? Light_spot will obviously make a little spot, so if it's a plain light entity, try increasing it's brightness.

anyway, i also need a link because the nem's site is dead aka i cant get it from them for some reason, and i really would like it! if anyone can supply a link, that would be teriffic!! thanks!!!

Batch compiler doesn't actually add anything to the compile, so if you're having problems with compiling, batch wont fix it.

Slackiller's HL Programs
But as ZL say's, a batch compiler will not fix this..

Let me guess...
Your light entities are near the ceiling?
You ceiling is a long way from the floor?
Your map is huge?

well, i have around 30 ligh entities near the celing of a medium, not soo huge room, and the map itself is around the size of 1 and 1/2 iceworlds.

iceworlds? wha?

Hang on.. do you have leaky maps? and are you using the default tools?
becuase if you are, then rad runs direct lighting only, which would explain 30 lights not giving much light.

Fix up those leaks ;) and get some proper tools. :P

iceworld = a cs map (fy_iceworld) and my map is 1.5 times as big as that map, i used it b/c its size is close to mine & its well known

by the way when using a lights.rad file... They can be customized for different maps...

For example... if your making a map called "bingo" then you would name the lights.rad file--> bingo.rad, this way you can use a combination of lighter or darker colors instead of always the same shade of color for one texture throughout your mod!

Say for bingo.bsp... you needed a lighter blue light for a texture,
but for bingo2.bsp you needed a darker blue light for the same texture.

You would make two seperate rad files--one called "bingo.rad" and another called "bingo2.rad", with the changes.
And thats it, i thought I'd add this because its not covered in the tutorial--(I don't think?)

So seventh you should update the tutorial.. k.

Thanks Unbreakable, I was always curious how that worked. I always just modified lights.rad each time, but your way seems much better.

I might do at some point.

No need to modify the lights.rad if you are using texlights.

Further information HERE

I forgot all about this tutorial, as the author was going to provide an example map...
It is still in rough format, but the info is good.
