How can I host a game in steam? : I try to build a server from the start new game menu, but it just returned to the windows ...And whats a router? : (?N HL1) (An internet server) Im really confused ...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-14 14:13:52 UTC Post #83790
A router is a device that sends little packets of data around a network. It's usually connected to two networks - A LAN/WAN and ISP, most commonly.

What game do you want to create a server for? HL1DM?

You can always run a Dedicated Server and +connect with your own IP.

But when I connect with my own comp to my own server that would lag...And I need to create a server for Svencoop and HL1 DM ,NS

For searching, of course ;o

And it doesn't lag, trying to connect to yourself.

but how when I open the decicaded server thing ...I cant change the map,and there is no SVEN or NS in it ...

Try running DS with -game ns or whatever the NS folder is called, same for Sven if you want a Sven server. You can change the map by typing changelevel x in the console, make sure to have a copy of the map in the DS folder though. (in steamapps.)

In your play games menu, right-click dedicated server.

Select properties.

Click the adv. launch options button.

Works for meh.

I think ,I cant host because of the router. How can I close that router thing? :
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-01 10:11:44 UTC Post #131500
Ok here's the deal.

You go to the wanted game you want to create a server.

There is a option called create a server.

If you wish to change level typ this in your console :

changelevel mapname or map mapname

You can create a server with a router but it's not visible for other players then. So nobody will join your server. You need to turn it off to do so. It's a few button work. A router gives internet connection to different computers.

A dedicated server makes a server for other poeple with good ping.

But you can't join it. You can't do this while having a router either.
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-01 10:17:15 UTC Post #131502
You can join your dedicated server, use 127.0.0.1 as ip and to make it work behind router
go to your router config page (192.168.0.1?) and enter the password.
Look for something like Virtual Server of Port Forwarding and open 27015 TCP/UDP.

You see 7th, there is the so called bottle neck, somehow people arent able anymore to read a manual. And when something refuses to work they blame the computer/program.

Somehow these people have a brain disease, unfortunately enough for them we cant help them.

If i where you i would calm down a bit. Seems like you cant handle things when you dont get what you want. And really, try reading the manual, on the steam website you can also find all the info required to set-up a server. Lots of people are able to do this. Somehow you dont.

wow i wish people would offer me this much help.. instead of CHANGING THE TOPIC COMPLETLEY >_<

what i do for when i host for my friends is just go to create game, then when it starts go to the console type "sv_lan 1" and then it becomes open for the other people.. then make a name that stands out. (mine is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!9119191!!!!!!!!!!!!) so your friends could find it. or to get your ip, go to the command prompt and type "ipconfig"
a hole bunch addresses should come up, one of them is to your server

hope that helped, because it looked like everyone was confusing you

I still don't understand whats the need for steam! It needs to be installed(and it's quite hard to do it)while WON is installed automaticly with Hl1 and it can cause problems while WON can't. :nervous: You only need it to play multiplayer. :tired:
Posted 18 years ago2005-09-09 08:52:19 UTC Post #133427
WON networks are shut down now, so anyone wanting to play MP needs Steam. It doesn't cause any fatal conflicts with your system or hardware either, most of the issues people have with it are user-related ;|

oooh, another way instead of all this ip shizzle, that does work for me. You can get a server to work, and everyone see it, behind a router, if you type in consol after starting a lan game.
"sv_lan 0"
