Hey - I'm pretty good at HL1 and HL2 Editing now, and I was wondering if someone here could tell me a little about Doom III or Unreal Editing, whether its an easy switch from Hammer to Radiant.

Ive browsed through the radiant editors and UEditor (whatever its called) and noticed a lot more options and Im usually the type of guy who finds it easy to jump into a program and learn it,
but overall, would you say the concept of the editors is the same?

3 Dimensions working (xyz), brushes, entities etc, etc. ?

Thx!

Why? Why degrade to mapping for worse games? lol.

Actually there was an article in PCGamer recently about mapping for D3. Just the basics but i'll see if i can find it. ;)

ohhhh how i hate radiant. :x only shows one grid axis at a time and it takes forever to navigate in the 3D view. no mouselook = no fun. not to mention it doesnt work as well (at least for me it didnt)

Yeah, the entire layout of Radiant is really horrible, imo - I'm never used to a single orthographic view, it's dumb that you have to TOGGLE between the xy, xz, etc, and the silly height bar is an annoyance as well.

If you want an advanced editor that's actually easier to use, go with UnrealED or RED.

not to mention that it cant even properly hollow a cube. you have to build everything brush by brush. and if you think carving is bad on hammer, dont even try it on radiant.

VM is a total nightmare in radiant. takes forever if your working on more than one axis. i tried making a map for CoD and i just gave up after the first few objects. makes me appreciate hammer a whole lot more. sure hammer may have its problems and shortcommings but it has a very good interface.
