OMFG i can't do the simplest thing in windows. You know how after the filename it shows the filetype extension? I don't have that anymore since I installed windows. So I can't change files or create files that aren't on that little "new" list. I can't even tell what a file is by looking at it I have to guess by its icon.

How do I get it so that I can see the filetype extension and when I rename it, so it actually re-creates the file to what I rename it to?
I have windows XP pro

Thanks much

I dunno bout XP, I have 2k, but try goin to: MY Computer/Control Pannel/Folder Options > file types. You should get a list of files, which are in the system... Maybe theres somethin wrong with them? Try checking the all functions - maybe you'll get good results... :)

already tried that. it shows all the fle types and stuff, I just can't see them on the desktop etc. it will say
hammer
as opposed to
hammer.exe
or
new text document
instead of
new text document.txt
