ok so everytime i compile my map it goes perfect then stops on BasePortalvis
i waited over night and it was still on it the next morning so i think my compiler is messed up :( please post if u have any information. :

Is the map big and complex? If so, then just be patient. ;)

For some reason--for me, anyway--the compile log screen will 'stick' on base portal vis, forever too, but if you ctrl-alt-delete and kill hammer, sometimes you will see that the bsp was created anyway, with the changes you made.

So, run the map and see if it actually compiled. Also, should be noted this only happens on huge, complex maps, and I don't think it runs RAD.

if u hit ctrl+shift+esc and go to the processes and kill hlvis.exe it might go on to rad and finish the map. it worked for me once. but let vis run a little while first.

the map is pretty big not complex at all http://twhl.co.za/mapvault_map.php?id=2900 it didnt compile the bsp :( i was hoping it did but anyways the link is to the rmf of the map

I checked it out and left some comments. And for the record this map is huge, and is complex in that you have lots of brush vertices showing at once.

Use the "Compilation Controller v1.4" This can be found at the snarkpit.com website under HL1 Utilities.

This compiles very large maps without freezing up.. even when not running vis in fast.
