A custom brush? There's isn't such a thing as a non-custom brush. Where is this, exactly?

Do you mean deforming a brush using Vertex Manipulation?

If this is the case, I'm no expert, but imo, VMing just takes practice to see what works and what doesn't. 2 good pointers from other's posts i've found useful:

1. Hammer does not like concave brushes or those that have sections 'turning inward'. Dandyli0n had a good analogy for this, which he said if you can imagine putting a rubberband around the brush, and it's not touching all sides, it's concave. concave = bad.

You can still make structues with concavity, like potholes, divits, bullet holes... just not individual brushes.

2. If you morph an object using VM and you get a 'invalid solid', you can clip the brush into pieces until the error is gone, or make the same thing by turing/flipping/rotating spikes and wedges.

no i mean how do i resize the brushes to be #length and #width and stuff like that. if that's what you're talking about i'll try it, thanks.

there are many ways to do that. first i click Camera View and make it 3D Textured. then find the brush i want to resize by placing the mouse cursor in the Camera window and use W, A, S, D, and the arrow keys. then click the object and it turns red, go to any other window (top, front, side) and click and drag the white boxes at the corners and centers of each side to resize! look at the bottom of the Hammer window near the taskbar and you'll see what the objects dimensions are(example: 10w 13l 44h). there ya go! good luck...

Those were the days. I can remember when I was at that level of mapping. I could never figure out how to solidafy the brush after I made it. What do ya know? Ya right click or press Enter!

just make sure to read the in the begining tuts, that will explain the question you just had and pretty much everything you would need to start mapping
