I just installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Home... The install went fine and all. When I start it up it works fine. But when Try to connect to the internet (dial-up) and activate Windows XP. It comes up "Systems ShutDown" and it says i have 30 seconds to clsoe stuff out adn save my work. It allso says some thing about "c:windowssystem32lssas.exe terminated with -23003240324".. It sounds like a virus but I am not sure. Oh by the way i reinstalled the after i got the messege the first time and it did the same thing..

LSASS is the Local Security Authority Service.

Google the error code or whatnot that it provides you with.

That'll be a worm. Set the clock back a day when it happens and then go to Windows Update and download stuff. You might need to set it back further if you're on dial-up, or get properly-downloadable stuff put on a CD for you.

Never connect a Windoze PC to the 'net without a firewall.

Wow, the MS Blaster is still out there? I've been running an unpatched Windows 200o SP3 installation on my other HDD for months, without an antivirus or even a firewall. I haven't hit any problems yet! Although, that may be because I never use it.

Erm, yeah, I'd certainly guess so. I think an average time for an unprotected Windoze PC to become infected is about thirty seconds.

I've used an unprotected Win98 installation and got a CIH variant within 2 hours of being online.

I know how to use linux to an exstent...But I prefer Windows to Linux, unless
I am setting up some type of server then I will install Linux.

Saying that Windows > Linux, just cause you can't use it, isn't an excuse!

I know how to use Linux.Maybe not as good as you know how to,but I still manage to set up servers just fine...

Linux wasn't intended as a server OS, it was intended to be a free clone of Unix with the desktop in mind, that's why it was first developed for the 386, which was a processor for home users.

XP Home is pretty rubbish. If I were you, if you're reinstalling, definitely get Pro [Corporate].

here you dummy's! i had this same virus, it's the w32.sasser virus. goto this link to get the removal tool, and make sure you follow the directions exactly! http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html

Calling people "dummy's" isn't very mature. Plus, your grammar is all wrong. "dummy's" actually means "dummy is" which is completely uncomprehensible. I think you are looking for the work "dummies'".

If you keep getting the 'lsass.exe cocked up' message when you boot, then its probably memory corruption, i just lost 2 sticks of 512mb ram and my 256mb radeon atlantis 9200 too memory corruption, may they rest in peace  the culprit was a power cut when i had windows server 2003 installed, jus installed and the memory caching was still oin so the powercut seemed to kill everything :(
Posted 18 years ago2005-06-27 09:01:24 UTC Post #117449
That's odd to have a powercut kill EVERYTHING. I've pulled the plug on my machine several times, sometimes in frustration, sometimes by accident. I haven't had so much as a corrupted byte yet.

Yeah I have, a few months ago. It's very bloated. You have to specify a reason to shutdown, how time wasting is that!??!!? Almost all Unix compatible systems have a shutdown command. Go up to any Unix compatible system (including Mac OS X) and type "shutdown -H now". It's pretty much instant. :)

Goon. NTx has "shutdown -t 0". Not exactly dissimilar.

I'm sure you don't have to. Bear in mind that they actually finally made a "server" operating system which was actually evidently intended for servers. Although they left IE in.
