its because you dont have the texures

Don't bother. The problem is missing textures, which most prefabs have in abundance.

Stock prefabs are useless. The only useful thing you can do is build, say, a light fitting which you want to copy throughout your map, and then make that into a prefab for easy duplication.

Personally I see the prefab system as only usefull for objects you'll use a lot in your maps, like light fixtures or doorframes and the like. Using prefabs made by others, or the default HL ones often results in an inconsistent map, looking too standard and boring to really make a difference.

Plus, downloadable prefabs often come without their textures and with trouble. So, yeah, is it really worth the download time or could you do the same but better? ;)

/my 2 cents

All prefabs are white for me, even the standard ones. They work fine ingame tough.

i needed to extract the halflife.wad or something i think..

it should be in your Half-life/Valve folder, or the correct GCF file in the SteamApps directory. use GCFscape to get at it if it is in the GCF.

then make sure under
Tools->Options->textures you have Halflife.wad and anyother wad you want to use in the box.

and yes, in general, prefabs arn't real useful
