k, i have a fairly large area that will have the same style of flooring...and..well...when i put one of the normal floor textures...it just looks stupid...is there anything i can do maybe to make it look a bit better?

once you add props and make the room interesting, the floor will seem better. It'll look silly because you dont have anything in the room.. presumably..

If you can make or find a larger texture (512x512) that fits the setting and looks good it should help make the repetition less noticable.

Or make it seamless with an image editing program, if you know how to do that.
You may also want to scale the texture up a lil bit, rotate it, so that the pattern would be less noticeable. :)

oh ic..i was looking at something...and the textures with - infront of the name...what do they do? how do you use them?

I think they're randomly tiling ones. You'd name a few of them like so:

-0TEXTURE
-1TEXTURE
-2TEXTURE
-3TEXTURE

and then if people were running in software mode, they'd be tiled randomly. Helps break up the monotony of textures on big brushwork.

I think the answer to your question is in your first post:
i have a fairly large area that will have the same style of flooring
Clip the area, add different flooring styles, make some parts of the floor taller, include a differently textured area in the edges of the room, etc.
The funny thing about some mapping problems is that we go looking for them ourselves :)
