Find and kill 50 Rats. GOOD LUCK BITCHEZ!
Each time a rat is killed, a chime will confirm the kill. When all of the rats are dead, the vox will say "level clear".
When this has circulated a little bit, I'll release the RMF. I really don't want people to cheat and look at the source files yet. Have fun!
First attempt: Looking at level more than looking for rats. Hurt self with grenades too much, so went beheaded kamikaze at a rat.
Second attempt: Got stuck on the forklift.
Third attempt: Did quite well, but ended up killing self on the same rat I hurt myself so much on on the first attempt.
There's a couple of spots I could see the player getting stuck in (besides the forklift, which I think needs some clip-brush smoothing), such as behind the reactors (or whatever they are) and in the toilets (you can jump up the urinal).
Besides that, fun to play! Some of the rats are harder to kill than to spot, which is a good part of the play.
I personally would like some way of telling you how many rats you've gotten on death, or maybe just a vox every five or so. I don't know how many I've found =(
EDIT: Did a last attempt to collect my knowledge. Found a total of somewhere around 32-33 rats. I wouldn't venture a guess as to which ones I've missed, and I got some pretty damn hard to see ones. (Btw, don't know if it's intended, but loading (quickload and such) seems to empty the grenade stockpiles. Even removes grenades you are already carrying if you go up to one.)
I didn't play through the whole thing, but everything I saw looked well done. The only minor minor nitipick I have(after playing for 5 minutes) is to make those nice green door handles connect at the bottom as well as the top
Great work and a fun idea, Rimmeh! =P
Not sure what if im doing something wrong? I'm starting up HL - create server - pick rat hunt map - click start.
map rh_quarters
in console.
If you create a server, every "monster_" type entity disappears as they are not available in multiplayer. This map is singleplayer only.
Anyway, forgot to rate. 5, of course. Love it! <3
Other than those though, I really like it.
P.S. And there is also a place in a room near pipes to where you can jump down, but can't get out.
The map itself is definitely suited for this purpose, seeing as how difficult it is to find all the rats. Good thing gordon never applied for that exterminator job
I haven't checked the source files yet, but just from reading the comments it seems like some are grenade-only. I couldn't pick up the nades at the start - i just kept getting weapon stripped and only receiving the crossbow.
Hunted for maybe 20-25 mins and managed to get as far as 12 rats remaining.
Some were really hard, and if I've learned anything from this, it's that you're one devious bastard.
Brushwork is super HL-nostalgic, really clean and textural with a lot of depth and detail created from relatively few brushes. Lovely work. One critique is that the tram you've made is a bit of an odd shape. It seems boxier than a classic HL tram.
5/5
One thing I noticed was that the detailed nature of the map and the gameplay made me expect the environment to be much more interactive than it was. I think it would really add to the map if those lockers and file cabinets could be opened, and if those soda-machines would actually work.
There were two rats that felt a bit unfair: The cupboard doesn't look like it has doors, they're difficult to open (they don't react to the use key, and can only be touched by crouching), and almost nothing else of that scale is interactive. The two destructible vent grates in the machine room look solid, but all other solid grates are indestructible.
But all in all, a good-looking map with unique and enjoyable gameplay.
