Striker StrikerI forgot to check the oil pressure
Just bought Half-Life:Blue Shit.

I enjoyed the game although it felt more boring than a free mod available on planetphillip. That, or maybe I'm just 10 years late...
The problem is that there are not a lot of interesting puzzles to solve other than some pushing of buttons. Sometimes it gets frustrating, and I got the impression that instead of putting more effort into the strategy/puzzle aspect, the designers preferred to just throw in hoards of marines...

All in all, I feel I just wasted the money I could have used to buy 10 breads, on a mod that I could've just read the story of on Wikipedia...

I also have to add that I think I'm going to give up getting involved in anything that's related to GoldSource. Even playing mods( well, not entirely, there are still some really good mods out there that still deserve to be played).
It's just that the engine is too old for today's standards, and I'm sick and tired too see the same old textures or low quality textures over and over again. Not mentioning that everything that has to resemble with a physical prop in motion has to be scripted.

Who knows, maybe we're going to be talking about source like this 5 years in the future too. Or maybe Valve will finally release a damn continuation to the half-life story, with an engine upgrade coming along.

:(
Blue shift is not the best game of the lot, but really hope you don't ostracize goldsource because of that..
Also it sounds like you're getting black mesa fever, tired of the same old themes and locations. Then my friend you need some total conversions. here are some for starters.

valve cant get anything done because theres a dam sentry gun in the lobby

I have played quite a few good mods until now. I think my favorites are Mistake and The Trap. I heard that The Trap was redesigned and I will probably replay it soon.
Thanks for the list though.

Fuck you dimbark. BARNEYYYYY CAAAALLLLOOOUUUUNN! Blue Shift wasnt as good as OP4, but I found it to be very fun. I agree about GoldSource though, all you people defend it and shit, its an age old engine. Get with the FUTURE.

People are already talking like that about Source.

I enjoyed Blue-Shift. Sure it was short, and there wasn't a lot of new content, but it has the most polished mapping of the three games.

I got it in a double pack with Opposing Force and the HD update a long time ago, can't complain about the price really.

"People are already talking like that about Source." And they've been doing it ever since '07. It really bothers me that they do that, because the engine isn't outdated, it just doesn't focus on graphics. :

Never had a chance to play Blue Shift. Heard good things and bad things about it, but I want to give it a try eventually.

I just wanted to add that I also felt that Blue Shift was the weakest next to Opposing Force and the original Half-life, but it does have that supremely sweet scripted scene when you are on the Elevator in the beginning and all hell starts to break lose. I love scripted sequences that you get to view from the players view and still be able to move around a small constricted area. Love that stuff!

Blue Shift was certainly the shortest and weakest of the 3 official releases by Valve/Gearbox, but as strider said, the mapping was brilliant down to the finest details. The last section in the old abandoned lab complex was quite impressive.

That said, I owned Blue Shift from day 1 and I got my steam version free by plugging in the CD-Key (Which also got me DMC, Ricochet, Half-Life, Opposing Force and Team Fortress.)

Back in the day, I only really got it after seeing the HD models in a trailer.

Was I the only one who enjoyed Op4 more than the original HL?
Blue Shift wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either.

I never actually got round to finishing Blue Shift. I shall have to reinstall it and look out for the mapping quality.

And thanks to Archie and Urby I got HL, OpFor, Blue Shift and TFC for free.

Well, its really impractical.

Like, coming to fix the elevator. Click the button and it works. :|

Hah, that was one of the most ridiculous lazy work I have seen in a mod yet :).

@Madcow While I did like the campaign in HL better than OP4, I definitely liked Op4's MP better than HL's.

I agree with you Madcow. Also cStriker if you got it on steam you should get Blue shift unlocked
http://old.hl-improvement.com/downloads.php
and also the "fixed" hd pack (because the steam hd pack is screwed up and wont let you play some mods).

wat! blue shift was brillient! the whole idea of the old underground teleport lab and the bit were you have to go and find the battery and the bit where you keep opening cartons to find the Dr Rosenfield (or whatever his name was)but keep finding other scientists instead.
it was nice and tidy and didnt go overboard like OP4.
OP4 was also good too, but in a different context to Blue shift.

Yeah, OP4 did go overboard.

I don't see how these other players can kill thousands of military soldiers and don't get identified like Gordon.
