So, this would be the "Gaben's own nightmare" difficulty someone once mentioned me. :P

Texlights are lights emitted by textures.

If you want to know more about what texlights are and how to use them, read about the info_texlights and light_surface entities. There are enough tutorials about how to set up texture lighting in your map.

Texlights:

Textures which emit lights. Lol.
Also, yeah, please, use func_detail for detailed brushes which interrupt VIS.

lol was it that bad xD ??

sounds too much professional for me but i'll try now. Thnx :)
( I didn't ever used any func_detail in my life :D )

What is textlights? i'm remembering someone said about that but i forgot.
Commented 7 years ago2017-08-26 12:47:03 UTC in vault item: lulz Comment #21028
1. You made a huge skybox around your map. Of course VIS would take hours to finish.

2. Use func_detail for complex brushwork. Seriously, I didn't manage to find even a single func_detail in your map.

3. Lots of intersecting brushes. I'm not sure if it's ok to embed detail brushes into other brushes, but I can assure you that two intersecting world brushes will increase your map's filesize and will badly affect the performance.

4. I suggest you to replace all such patches

with better ones
User posted image
Always tie such brushword to func_detail.

5. You have some invalid solids in your map. It's surprising that your map even compiled.

6. You should use texture lighting (texlights) instead of usual lights.

Despite all these problems, the map looks pretty interesting. Would be nice to see a polished and optimised final version.

Thanks for the advice guys, i've been watching the news on it and it seems like the coast is going to get hit the hardest. There's huge drainage sewers in my apartments parking lot but if I lose my truck i'm only out a few thousand. I'll talk to my family and see what they suggest I do. Going to hit the hardest tonight or saturday morning.

I agree that lumber construction is a complete joke these days but it's economical at least. My apartment has some steel beam construction though.

Yay hurricane party!

Advice from Florida, move your truck ahead of time if you can. Also you might need it to evac to your local shelter if shit gets real.

I can't help but wonder why Americans keep making houses out of wood, not that it isn't a great material, but not in areas where there's a high chance of extreme weather each year!

Sorry for your loss. Glad she made it to that age and with such a horrible disease. I still have my grandpa on my mom's side and my grandma on my dad's. My grandpa isn't doing too good though as his mind is beginning to slip a little. He accidentally drove into Houston Tx all the way from Garwood Tx the other day! My aunt had to drive him home!

Stocked up on groceries for expected power outage for a few days. On the third floor of my apartment so wind might be an issue. We'll see. Got a truck so if water rises in the parking lot i'll drive it onto the curb. Got plenty of beer;), water and food/ mostly fruit and canned stuffs. Time to party!

Ghost Master is quite different - it's isometric, you are a master of ghosts that controls several other wraiths to scare people off or do tasks for summoners. You're not a lone ghost bound to place or object - you move through entire city in that game.

A game where you're flying in first person perspective around some place, scaring anyone daring to enter it would be more interesting. Especially with Thief-like well implemented AI that reacts to noises and environment changes (The DarkMod has such AI on id Tech 4 engine, and I'm going to port it to SE2 and mess with it anyway - it won't be too hard since they share base Tech 4 AI). You could grab and throw objects all around - try to scare or maybe even kill people. DarkMod has "grabber" code as well, it even was in Doom 3 RoE, though in different form - Tech 4 has in-built physics engine as well.

I think that it won't be hard to do on Tech 4 at all - you give player ability to fly via simple edits and build levels out of monsterclips (making outern-most walls normal brushes or models), so you could still pass through walls and floor but not escape the place. Port AI and grabber code from Darkmod, then create assets. You could make some more advanced stuff like ragdolls to control mannequins or creepy dolls with in-built tools and modelling software (model in Blender, AF Editor for ragdolls, can't remember where to make additional collision meshes), then add script allowing you to better pose models.

Or you could do the same on UE4, but you'll have to blueprint/code whole game logic while you have all of it GPL on Tech 4, and it's forks are decent enough for developing something more advanced than HL mod.

I think that isometric evil vs evil is the best one there. You can try, if it comes out great then I'd play the hell out of it.
Commented 7 years ago2017-08-24 20:40:33 UTC in journal: #8852 Comment #67918
Well that kinda spoils it for me if a game already exists like it.

I might steal that isometric evil versus evil idea >:}

Kinda like Ghost Master, but in different perspective and with different goal. Still sounds like an interesting game.

I have an idea floating about where he player is a type of paranormal entity. Like a specter that haunts unhallowed ground or a spirit that is bound to an object. The idea is to creatively strike as much fear into people as possible, and the more people fear you, the more the legend of you spreads, and the more powerful you become. This is offset by your class's weaknesses, like you hear in all sorts of ghost stories where someone burns bones and casts out the spirit. Just think of all the horror movie references like Freddy and Jason. I think it'd be fun. Thoughts?

I have an idea where players go from house to house, breaking furniture.
Who breaks most of the furniture, wins.

This one was taken from a Blockland gamemode:

Santa roams around the town, throwing pieces of coal at 'misbehaving' children.
The misbehaving children (players) have to pick up presents and throw them into an incinerator or something.

Lol.

Ok, achievements might be cool. Though I would make them kinda hard to actually achieve, would probably involve different game modes like Stomp Only or One Hit Knockout. I always felt weird about achievements being super arbitrary and not amazing to get.

Sucks to hear, man. My condolences.
Almost all the elders in my family had really long, healthy lives (~ 90-100), except for my great grandfathers that both died serving in WW2. Up until a couple of years ago after my grandmother had a hearth stroke, (she's recovered since then) everything had been going pretty smooth. I get to visit about once every couple of weeks but, like Jeff, i can't help but feel concerned whenever i think of her.

My condolences, hope you're alright.

My grandfather died when I was only 2, he had a heart attack and I only know him from stories about him. He didn't really cared about his health from what I know. This, and the fact that most of my family live really long is a huge motivating factor to keep a healthy lifestyle.

About that mildly relatd thingy: Strangely, it is true. Even more so than weddings. Lost my aunt last year, I travelled across whole country to attend to funeral and met a lot of relatives I never even heard about.

My paternal grandmother had a stroke a couple years ago, non-fatal, but it really shook me up. Every time I go visit her these days I can't help but think it might be for the last time.
Diseases suck.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I remember when my grandfather died in 2010. I cried the day I found out. He left me a couple of things to remember him with: his belt and his binoculars. But I could remember a lot of stuff even without the legacy items.

And last year, my great-grandmother died. I haven't visited her many times, unfortunately, so I didn't get to know her that well.
It was very disappointing to me, and sad. She was my only great-grandmother, and I had lost her. It didn't make that much of an impact on my life as my grandfather's death did, but it doesn't mean that it didn't leave an impact at all.

Regarding relatives, I met a lot of relatives I knew before but forgot as time went on at my great-grandmother's funeral. No new relatives, oddly. Just the ones I forgot.

Condolences.

My mat. grandmother died before I was born due to good ol' lung cancer from smoking, so no memories there. (Though ironically probably the most indirect effect on me, since that certainly helped colour the household against smoking.) My pat. grandfather died early enough that I only have the vaguest memories of him. My pat. grandmother was probably the most relevant death in the family to me, but again, bloody ages ago, so few memories. Only grandparent still around is my mat. grandfather, who was borderline (if not actually) abusive to my mother, so I can't say I've had any real desire to stay in touch.

Point being, I've never had anyone I've been particularly close to die (and very few that I wasn't), so I'll be brutally unprepared for it when it happens to someone I actually care about. Looking forward to that!

As for other relatives, I can't say I keep much in touch with anyone who isn't in the immediate family (I.E. parents and siblings). I don't know any of them that well, and blood doesn't strike me as a particularly good reason to do so.

Very sorry for your loss. Lost my grandfather early on in his mid-60's after fighting a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Also worrying for me because it's genetic, I'm likely to get it as well, and probably my father, and my children (when I have them).

It was a real shame too because I never was able to know much about him. He was very quiet, reserved man.

I don't know anything about my family, so it's always a treat to see new relatives I never knew I had. Sucks it had to be at a funeral though.

Yup. I'm a fool for blue and night scenes, so the atmosphere in this one tickled my pickle the most. There's another moody one that i liked with some sort of asian structure on top of the hills, but the front tree blended a bit too much with the rest of the background.

Super Matt Jordan is an adventure platformer about a friend of mine who is a pretty cool and misunderstood guy. With all that, it's also about the empirical versus the hypothetical, or in other words, what would you do if you had super powers? I asked a number of my friends this question then pitted their answers and personalities against an incredible challenge "what if someone threatened to destroy your home?"

It is a metroidvania with exploration and discovery. It's also story driven, which I've developed a very in depth system for dialog and cutscenes. Story has undergone quite a lot of work and is still undergoing a lot of changes. It's a big project but it's moving along.

A couple TWHLers are in it, a good number of people are. It's also non-profit and free.
