Well isn't that just godammed a-nice for you to have 4-times the amount of RAM i have! Why don't you also gloat about your amazing processor, to make me feel even more bad about it =P

But yeah, i'm dubious... Maybe i will wait 'till i get my new laptop to fuck around, in-case i melt things =)

Thanks for the advice!
Commented 11 years ago2013-07-30 11:08:39 UTC in journal: #8207 Comment #55984
yeah. if you're getting a new processor i'd spend another $30 on a GOOD heatsink. The ones that come with the processors work well but if you're going to OC it you will probably be safer with a beefier sink.
Also, Arctic Silver is your friend.

I have 16Gb ram and its PLENTY.

Other than that, another great way to speed up your PC is to get a small (120Gb) SSD and install Windows and all your favorite programs on it. Keep your HD for storage. You can change the locations of MyDocuments and MyMusic and all those default folders to a separate drive.

Ya i'm running 64-bit ultimate, so it would recognize the RAM. I should just get a new CPU for the heck of it to try. (the uprayredd cpu would be over-clockable as well, so who knows...)

i DID ALSO google a convoluted way to overclock my current CPU, but i already have overheating issues, so maybe i won't try that ;)
Commented 11 years ago2013-07-29 16:50:20 UTC in journal: #8207 Comment #55983
You could always use more RAM IMHO.
So long as you have a 64bit install you can have up to 32Gb of ram.
If you still have a 32bit install then your RAM maxxes out at around 3.6Gb - so its WORTHLESS to have more than 4Gb.

If you do the math on the processor speed increase its a bit more than a 15% boost. It's all up to you though.

nice, i always wondered if MSE was any good, (i used it briefly when it first came out).

My speed bottleneck is unfortunately my socket p cpu(my gpu, hdd access time get high marks).

I've considered upgrayedding the cpu, but i'd only be going from 2.6ghz to a little over 3ghz, and my cpu is not overclockable, so yeah..

I could very cheaply go from 4 to 8gb of 1066 ddr3, but do you think it would help any?

Striker: I barely use the internet for browsing and i don't download on this machine, i'm actually considering not installing antivrus on this rig. (i will still backup images regularly, in-case there are any problems)

I go with AdAware and Microsoft Security Essentials.
My machine hasnt been reformatted ever. Its still pretty fast.
Altough i did just double the ram and quadruple the number of cores....

I've been using Avast+Comodo since 2008. If you stumble upon a better alternative, let me know.
I don't know how fast the computer would run without this combination because literally the first thing I ever do when I reinstall windows is install these two security applications. But I also know that I never had security problems, mostly because I'm also skeptical on clicking everything on the internet.

A elderly professor assigned his class a term paper. One lazy student, while looking for papers to copy online, came across an old, usable essay that the professor had written during his school days. "Surely I'll ace the assignment if the professor himself did it," thought the student.
The student was shocked when he received an F. The professor only left one footnote, "This is the dumbest thing I've ever read."

Most everyone is a jerk when they first join, and/or have no ideas about how forums work. I just try to ignore my old posts as much as possible when i come across them ;)

TWHL was the first forum/community i ever joined, And THANK GOD, because people are so kind here compared to other places.

I couldn't even speak English right when I first joined TWHL. I spammed, acted like a jerk, made useless threads. Anyway you probably remember, yea.. this community is THAT awesome.

So, many thanks to you too and of course to the rest of TWHL.

Yeah but there's a few android viruses floating around.
Be wary of side-load apps unless they're from a reputable source.

Amazon should be safe however.

""The only nasty thing is that it doesn't charge by USB, only with the power adapter.""

That's probably because it requires at least 1000mA (1Amp) to charge. Most USB ports don't put out more than 550mA.

Android tablets have the Google Play store (though Amazon and a few others have their own stores), and you don't need to root an Android to side-load apps, you just have to enable the option to allow unsigned installs.
Commented 11 years ago2013-07-22 09:56:45 UTC in journal: #8203 Comment #58321
Is there a market for tablets or do you download apps directly from the author's website? If there is a market can you root the tablet so you aren't paying for anything?

Not telling you whether she was hot was probably a good idea.

I'm not sure if I've ever had a lucky encounter like yours, but I do know how you feel. It's like you're no longer alone in a foreign country where you don't speak the language.

...not that I've ever been in that situation, either. It's just a metaphor.
