my friend has a house way out in the sticks and we have parties/bonfires out there, get hammered and just stare at the sky... on a clear night it's breathtaking.. i don't recall seeing satellites except i think we saw the iss once =)

I wish i recorded some of my model rocket follies to share with you! this one time i made a big rocket one out of 2" pvc with i think 4 d model rocket engines in smaller pvc pipe hot-glued to the rocket body, and one of those big "movie" rocket motors you get from the hobby store as the 2nd stage inside the 2" pvc. The d engines went off fine, but the big rocket motor failed to ignite until the rocket was already on a downward trajectory, so it was basically a 6 foot spear of pvc coming back down to earth at high speed, and disintegrated spectacularly on impact =)

I've never ever seen a satellite in the sky. I saw a shooting star the other day though.

We do a thing pretty often, sort of a competition of who can spot the most satellites. Sometimes we collectively spot heaps, sometimes none.

They probably are quite common, but it's a rare night where there aren't any clouds in the way unfortunately.

And while some day I would like to build a valved pulse jet engine and stick it on a remote control plane or something, this one is just a test to see if I can actually build things occasionally rather than just planning them. I've made a spark gap with an electric lighter, but, I need to get some longer wires to be able to ignite it from a distance. In which case I can try using more fuel and see if I can get a beter flame.

You'd be surprised to find out that seeing satellites traveling on the sky was an interesting night activity for me since I was a child. They're easy to spot.

Are you by any chance building a rocket or just a jam jar jet? Because I remember wanting to build a scramjet, or something like that in the past...
I am interested in seeing your results.

Yep, although this one seems to pulse at a high frequency, so it's less of a farting noise and more of a loud roar.

Are those the ones that are very loud and make a farting like sound repeatedly?

We had a classmate be our official photographer and take photos and film of it, and she said she got most of it. If it gets uploaded, I'll get a link up.

Wow, guys. I didn't even know people still remembered my old maps. Thanks for all the awesome compliments.

It makes me a little sad too to think that it's difficult now to find 32 person matches, because believe it or not I never got the chance to play this map myself after beta testing in a few 4-6 player servers.

By the way, I actually made 15 other finished maps and 5 playable betas, and I don't think I ever released any of them here. If you guys are interested, I can upload them to a temporary fileshare service if you guys can handle finding a more permanent place for them. 8 of them are included in the last release of the mod Rocket Crowbar 2 if you can find it, but the others have never seen a release at all. We've played them for years at LAN parties and they're pretty fun.

It looks very professional.

When it's ready, I'll let my son try his hands at it.

Uh... No sir, that's a really dodgey message, you can look at it in the fist glance and tell sum tin wong. Don't do it! He steal, even if its a small file and it may seem as though it won't matter, to me, if he did that, it would matter A LOT to meh.

He can just decompile the .bsp files from half life source i don't see why do you need to ask him for hammer screenshots.

Just say NO
Commented 11 years ago2013-01-14 20:19:57 UTC in journal: #8085 Comment #38606
Will do.
Commented 11 years ago2013-01-14 19:54:37 UTC in journal: #8085 Comment #38603
So you asked for examples of his work, and he sends you Garry's Mod screenshots of Half Life maps?

I'd tell him to fuck off. He's insulting you by posting screenshots of Half Life, so as far as I'm concerned being as rude as possible is fair game.

You don't need to deal with potentially chasing this guy down if he tries to pass your work off as his. That's an inconvenience you could live without, and you don't have any obligations to this guy in the first place.

@Captain: Yes, Half Life Source maps will run under Gmod.

Edit: If there's any doubt left at all, ask him for Hammer screenshots.

I would say if you have plans on re-using the maps in a new mod one day, keep the rmfs private, otherwise, i don't really see any reason to hold them back, personal preferences aside.

Source on the other hand i always release the source now if someone asks, since BSPSource does such a perfect job decompiling, you may as well.

Will TWHL4 be out by HL3?
Commented 11 years ago2013-01-14 02:14:30 UTC in journal: #8085 Comment #38610
No you can't Stu, because:
1. I'm not proud of it, and
2. I'm hosting TWHL on my own server and don't want to expose any of the potential security risks that are almost certainly to be in there.
I am, however, hosting the framework that will be behind TWHL4 on my website.
