The basic idea is good, but the texturing and brushwork is horrible. The rocks look really bad, and there are no weapons or anything. This might be semi-tolerable as a first map, but it's just blah.
With good looking rocks and redone texturing with better "rooms," this might be good. Plus it needs more objects. Reminds me of another Kill Box

I agree with most of your opinions except for the glock paradise and the rocks that were missing faces. If you are running in software mode that will happen if there are too many polygons on ANY map. You only get two glock clips, anfind two more later on. over 120 in shotgun ammo, but that's because I didn't want the player to be able to use every weapon yet. I will take in many things that you said. However I have no idea how to make realistic trees or rocks. I can pretty much handle ground terrain, though. Pehaps you could help me out on the trees?

Cool. But you can make it a LOT better with some easy steps.
Align all the textures in the entire map so they lok right. (Drawers, inside window frame, ceiling.) When you add more hallways and such, make sure you put in better lighting.

How can you run out of ammo? you get a 50 round 9mm clip and have to fight 3 headcrabs and 2 slaves after you pick it up. 2 shots to kill each head crab. 6 ammo gone 3 shots to kill a slave 12 ammon gone plus handgun come with 17 rounds, so...you have to miss 55 times...wow.

Wow. I wish I could map like you, lol. You are going to blow my map away! I found the secret, yes. Nothing wrong with this map exept that the pipes should sound like metal, but who cares, it's awesome!

Well this map could be great if you changed some things. 1. Space has no light. It should be pitch black outside the ships. 2. How is gordon breathing outside the ships? 3. The ships textures are really bad. Add some diversity or change them altogether. 4. The ships are too unrealistic. Add some engine exaust pipes or something. Make it look like the thing could actually fly. Then you've got a good little mod.

Your map dosn't suck. It's really good for a first map, but there are a few things you could do better. In the hallways make light fixtures so it looks like light is coming from somewhere. It runs kind of slow. Look for my rspeeds example map soon.

You shouldn't put crowbars in the crates. In dm u start with one. This map reminds me of Unreal Tournament.
I don't have CS so I think a HL conversion is in order.
I am going to stop making any more HL maps due to lack of interest. Starting to CS map. Wish me luck!
