Tagan are excellent, too. I have an incredibly quiet PSU from them; it really is almost silent. Utterly inaudible.

Also consider that good PSUs will be capable of stretching up to much higher wattages than their constant rated output. Mine is, I think, rated at 480W, but it can push up to about 630 for sixty seconds (allowing all the power to spin up drives, etc., when the PC is started up).

If you really need some serious power, you could always use two PSUs (or more), but you'd need to have a peek at the ATX/BTX spec. to figure out how to turn on the one not connected to the motherboard.

No point in making stuff harder for yourself. The point is generally to produce something useful (and efficent), not do make it as difficult to make as possible ;).

I like Notepad++ meself.

Don't skimp on anything! It really doesn't work. The most boring components are presently pretty dirt-cheap (disk drives).

The rated power output of a power supply is fairly important, but it's vital that it's made by a good company too.

Incidentally, I intend to upgrade to something a bit above what Anthony's going for around Christmas.

PS: I also recommend, personally, that you go for a 64-bit CPU, which means, in the present day, an Athlon64.

Of course it does. You've never heard the term "geological timespan" referring to a very long time?

I could do that if atom lets me have admin stuff. I should get Mercutio stable at the week-end, I'll then try and integrate it into the code I have and the database that it'll generate, and let atom know. Then... we'll have to wait and see.

My greatest concern is that atom might still be using his dad's business's webserver and might therefore be reluctant to give p0wer to me :).

I don't agree with BL's suggestion that some scientists have made it up, but I would say that I am slightly... well, not suspicious, but... thrown... by all the contradictory discoveries and reports, only the most dramatic of which (OMG WORLDENED!!!1111) are covered in the media. You'd think we'd've moved on from the twin planets causing the end of the world or whatever that was that Nostradamus said.

The indoor cow thing made no sense. You can't make matter, gaseous, disappear, inside or outside. Unless you're proposing to turn it into pure energy?

Incidentally, there're electric motorbikes on sale in England for pretty reasonable prices. Don't know how they handle, but the point is... they're finished.

Finally, did you know that the Communist Manifesto was written on July the fourth too? Ironic, eh? :)

I learnt good XHTML, CSS, and high intermediate PHP in about a weekend. It's really not hard. Why do you think there're so many out-of-work web developers and designers?

m0p: on a related note, you have to use tables sometimes. Don't you?
