How about having the elements in place and then setting up every part of the portal from scratch.

So you start with a computer cart without the computer, a portal base (small set of stairs and a platform) and a battery case without the batteries and a sample holder. Then you have to gather.

-Computer
-Batteries
-Fuel Tanks
-Cables and Tubes
-An antenna
-Portal Framework
-Idiots guide to setting teleport coordinates. :P
-Portal generators (spikes where the beams come from)
-Dampening Locks (Whatever they look like :nuts:)
-Alien Crystal Sample (mine is set in an offworld mine so that would best suit my map :))

I don't like the message system. You should either use game_texts or edit the titles.txt if using a minimod folder (which we will be doing)

I do like the unfinished portal though. Pretty neat.

I still don't like the way it made me feel. I couldn't fall asleep until I buried my head under the covers last night.

Maybe I'm more sensitive toward this sort of thing.
the face at the end is a badly modelled head... ooh, scary.
For some reason I find the image of a badly modelled (or mabye distorted) head / face deeply disturbing.

I agree with Hunter but I will add not to watch in the dark when your tired with headphones on. :D

I think this affects different people in different ways and I don't like the way this has made me feel. I don't want to go near the windows anymore and I don't want to go to sleep. (3:30AM here BTW)

At some point on one of the vids it felt like my eyes were trying to crawl out of my head.

I have an overwhelming desire to hurt someone which isn't like me.

Just a curiosity thing really. What would a TWHL gathering be like? Where would it be held? Who would you most want to talk to? How many people would slap ZombieLoffe with a large trout? (i.e. How many large trouts would we need to order?)

People who don't map for HL1 anymore = people who have lost their mapping touch.

I had this idea for the hub. The player enters a lobby of each mappers own design before actually entering their level. The lobbies should include a picture of the mapper or their avatar and then their voice (or a game text) can introduce the level and it's objectives.

I like it.

We should definately go for Mini-Mod though. Custom textures and editing the title.txt in the ValvE folder can mess HL up.

I started on a map regardless.

If we create this as a mini mod rather than a map pack we can include custom wads for each mapper. I think making a map with a custom wad and then adding the textures to one big wad would sechs the whole thing up the bottom.

If you do use that method I advise the use of fog. Otherwise you will see the cliffs and road vanishing in chunks behind you and that is pretty ugly.

It's like I said. Most of the guys here already have their plates full. I would love to help, really. However I am a very busy man also on the search for texture artists and so far I haven't found any that aren't already working on something.

Hell, thats the reason I learned how to do it myself in the first place.
