Because valve.wad is in the valve folder, and not in the cstrike folder where it needs to be.

You get the error because counter strike can't find the wad.
Copy it and put it along with all the other counter strike wads

That's the shittiest reason ever.

WHY do you need to only see the names?
There is no reason too, as huntey said.

The path infront of the texture name infact makes things easier.
Using the path and the filter you can easily filter so that you only see textures from certain folders, for example, custom materials, sprites etc etc.

And if you are looking for a wall texture, just search wall??

Try playing Paranoia to get some ideas. The first time you encounter the zombie-things and the bit leading up to it was probably the scariest thing I've seen in an HL map.

Calm down a bit and think about what you are doing.

This mod, it ain't gonna happen, deal with it.
So far I've only seen one of your maps, your door example map, and that one looked like something from wolfenstein 3D.

You are obviously new to mapping, we all were once.
I suggest starting easy, EASY.
Remaking HL2 for HL1 is not EASY, it's fucking hard and stupid!

I suggest that you try making some simple HL SP maps first, and release them here.
If they are good, then you might just earn enough respect for people to help you with future mods.

SIMPLE! And it makes sense.

Minor bump!

I figgured out howto do it.
I needed to change the rendermode of the combine soldier.

And I was wrong about the value being from 0 to 1, it is infact from 1 to 255.

Examplemap comming soon along with quite a few suprises.
This is gonna be awesome!

Yes, but it doesn't do shit.

I tried putting in all kinds of values, but... OH!
I think I know what I did wrong now.

I put values from 1 to 255, and it didn't work at all.
But it looks like I miss read(?) the page about it on valve dev wiki.
Apparently you are supposed to put in a value between 0 and 1, which is then multiplied with 255!
Why the hell did they make it so messy?

I'll see if that works as soon as I can, so don't close the thread yet.

Still one question remains, is there a way to change the render effect?
I knew about alpha but couldn't get it working (and I still haven't tried the 0 - 1 thing, but I'm pretty sure it will work) but I haven't seen any output or console command that possibly could be related with render FX.
The render FX isn't THAT important, as long as I know how to alter color and alpha I should be fine.
But being able to change render FX would make it look slightly sexier

The Gman intro was simply an overlay, EP1 vorts, can't remember that, and the EP2 healing, that DID change the textures directly on alyx, so maybe, but I have no idea how they did that

Holy cow an entity question!

I'm not sure if this is possible, but if it is, I have this really cool secret hidden idea, but to do it I need this to work.
Is there a way to change the render properties of an NPC ingame in HL2 or any of the episodes?
Either using inputs or with a console command, doesn't matter.

I have figgured out how to change the color, wasn't very hard, just the simple input called "color"
But what if I want to change the trasparancy of the NPC?
Is this possible?
There appears to be no input for it, and I'm not really an expert at console commands.

I understand the hammer system perfectly fine, but it doesn't handle high scores.
Sure you could "freeze" the score and the next time someone presses the button another timer is launched, but it still won't be as good as a high score.
And he wants highscores, so he will need a server addon.

How is the score displayed?

It sounds as if they are using custom entities with some kind of a server addon, because as far as I know there is no way to save the time, and then display it along with loads of other times!

I'd ask one of the admins if they are running some kind of an addon.

1. Trigger_hurt is the answer.
It's a brush based entity, so if you enter the volume you get hurt.

To make it kill you, simply set the damage to over 100

It fucked up the whole game.

The old original background and menu is back, the camera has gone fruitcake and it still goes bewm on quit.

I'll be honest and say that I don't know a lot about striders.

But anyways, a strider doesn't move freely, a strider needs path_corners and info_node_airs to be able to move around. (perhaps info_nodes too, long time since I did it)

When these are placed out, the strider will patrol along with the track.

Changing targets using timers and stuff can make it look like the strider is walking freely, but he really isn't.

You should google for a tutorial, striders are a pain.
I remember when I set one up, I just kept experimenting with different nodes and shit, and eventually it worked.

You could just have the spawners there, but they could be deactivated!
And when you press the button, they activate!

1. Simple, don't overlap.
Overlapping is the spawn of the devil.
Ovarlapping is baaad.

2. The entity is called prop_physics, this entity will spawn a physical object in the world, by physical I mean that you can pick it up, and push it around (unless it's too heavy)
There is also something called prop_static which creates a non physical object, the prop_static can not be pushed or moved in any way.
And there is a more advanced version called prop_dynamic, which some models require.
