Make sure the brush (box or whatever) is selected. Select the clip tool. Click and HOLD DOWN the left mouse button and drage the pointer around. See that line that moves? The all-white part of the brush is the part that will remain after you clip. Make sure the all-white part is the bigger side. once your done, you can let go of the mouse and press enter. Whalah! You have "clipped" of a chink of a brush!

If the whole brush is white then click the clip tool icon several times to toggle the mode.

I recently downloaded Counter-Life and it didn't come with any of the CS models! Whenver I play a new game it says, "modelsv_knife can not be found." Was I supposed to have them all beforehand? Where can I get them? This sucks!

This is a HALF-LIFE mapping compo. I don't think your entry will be valid if you include your own dll with the map. You can replace the models and textures and everything in normal Half-Life without altering the dll. Spirit isn't even Half-Life, it's Spirit.

I think I may know how they used the entity set up as well. They had the skeleton models and the grunt models right over eachother, when you were on a trigger in front of the window, the skeletons were rendered normaland the grunts were rendered invisible, when you left the trigger, the skeletons were rendered invisible and the grunts were rendered normal.

I have a button that triggers a multi_manager which triggers a lot of stuff. Here is a diagram:

BUTTON
+mmm
         +pump1
         +pump2
         +pump3
         +pump4
         +rot1
Now whenever I actually press the button I get this weird error, then it quits out. Here is a link, I don't own any webspace so I used an old map I uploaded with a screenshot for the image.

I tried a lot of things, but nothing stopped the error except for actually taking the target out of the button itself.
The pumps are func_trains that go up and down, like the pumps in the train ride in HL.
The rot is a giant func_rotating. It has an origin brush.
I know his is a lot to read but I have never seen this problem before.

I have a car that is a func_train. It works and follows the path_corners and everything except it doesnt turn on the path corners. It just moves through them. I tried making the car a func_tracktrain but it doesn't even start. Any help? I just want the car to turn on the path_corners.

With Half-Life 2 near a month away from release, I think Atom should add new Half-Life 2 sections to the website. Map Vault, Tutorials, entity guides, everything, while keeping all the old HL things here. Most of us will probably buy HL2 when it comes out, and will probably start mapping with it. However I don't think HL1 will be forgotten forever.

What would I need to make so that every time you shoot this one object it triggers an env_shooter? Imagine you are shooting a tree with a machine gun, and all these leaves are flying out, lot's of them. What entity should the thing you're shooting at be?

I was testing out Pepper's terrain tutorial and making my own terrain test map. It was going perfectly and the rock walls looked good. I saved the map and went out for a swim. When I came back in and started up again, whenever I did a VM the vertex points were all out of alignment and though they looked right at one camera angle, from another they were all out of wack. How do I do VM in 3d mode without this weird problem?

That doesn't work. It does the same thing as rotating it 180 degrees. The handle is in the right place but it is upside down. I just figured out what to do. You have to check the box "Align to world."

Do what I do. Make a succession of maps that make the player get smaller and smaller. First I did a bathroom where you were 3 inches tall. Then I did inside a video tape. Then I did inside a pen. After a while you give up on the stupid ideas because half-way through you think of a good idea and then actually finish the good idea because the bad one gave the good idea. lol that last sentence is kind of weird....

You could have twice as many lights, but have half turned off. Then when you step on a trigger it shuts off the first half and starts the second half. You only need one room.

I have a door. The door opens fine if you look at it one way, but if you go through and look at the other side, the door's handle is right next to it's hinges! How do I flip the texture on the weird side without making it look upside down?

Hey I keep getting these "virtual memory minimum too low" messages when I am comiling my maps. So I went into the options and changed it from 192 - 345 or something to 300-700. Just wondering if that wasa smart thing to do or if it even really matters.

If it's just carving a box, I think it is ok to use Carve, but creating complicated shapes you should build up instead. This reason is that if you use the build up method, you get the same result if you carved a box.

Also make sure the little box is inside ro going through the big box in all the views. (top, side, bottom)

HAHA! I found the problem. Ok. I have the same map in my Mod folder and my Valve folder. The broken map was in both, I mean. I fixed the problem, then compiled and forgot to replace the broken map in my mod folder so it executed that first instead of the valve folder map because I was ruuning my mod in a custom game wow looong sentence.

Well I removed the change level stuff and it still does the same thing.
The error message is one of those
"Half-Life has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvinience." errors.

Everything worked before I added a fallen tree and an underwater tunnel.

Alright. I have a new mod I am making called Jungle Warfare with new models and everything (name not final). The map compiled fine and everything worked. But then I added the final parts of the map including a level change. However, the map designated in the level change doesn't exist yet, nor does the landmark. After compilation, the map jst hangs and then I get an error message and the game closes. Is the level change the problem? Or the size of the map? (1.3 meg) It takes 15 minutes to compile so I can't really fool around alot. Please help!
