Point lights to keep a lamp or lightbulb lit aren't necessary in Source. Textures on props can light themselves.

Be sure to use spotlights instead of point lights in that first area.

And then the blatant Coka Cola ad halfway through the movie totally ruined the atmosphere.
How 'bout that Vitamin Water?

The Road
I felt that the character of the wife was very flat, but the rest of the movie was fan. fucking. tastic.

I've been wanting to see a post apoc movie done like this for years. Even if you're not a fan of narratives, some of the panoramas alone make this movie worth seeing.

I'm most definitely buying it when I get the chance. 9/10

Definitely, but it gets worse with other players in a game.

Apparently this is a big problem with multicore rendering, and someone on the Steam forums told me to turn it off. Now it's calmed down.

My TF2 client is "jumpy", and has been for as long as I can remember. My framerate and ping are both fine, but the game is riddled with these tiny jumps.
This only happens in TF2 as far as I can tell.

A free version comes with CCCP.
I'm not sure which version that is, because I didn't actually download Zoom from their own website.

Edit: Pro is the free version, but the second I went to check, I started getting "This is the trial version" messages on startup that were never there before.

The real observation here is that the masses have no appreciation for the old framework that set the foundation for what we have today.
But surprise, surprise, you aren't the first to see this, and you won't be the last. Fucking everybody makes this observation.

This could be said about anything, especially movies. It doesn't matter what medium it is or where the person is.
Seriously, what's the first thing most people think when you tell them to watch an old, black and white movie? "Oh man, that movie's old, it can't be good."
The same even goes for foreign films.

I don't think country of origin highly affects what kind of games you like. It's more down to personal preference.

in Custom soundscapes in source Post #278441
Well the "play everywhere" flag acts like a soundscape sound in Source, so it could be used as a substitite with a lot of sounds and lots of triggers.

I mean it's still a real pain and I'd hate for anyone to have to resort to it, but at least it's a possible fallback.

I've never had to target soundscapes, myself. Simply walking into the radius of one triggered it.

You will have to trigger an env_sprite, an ambient_generic, and the monstermaker to get the teleport effect.

The script is all correct as far as I can see. Something must be wrong in Hammer.
Use "soundscape_debug 1" in the console to be absolutely sure what soundscape the game is trying to play.

Think about it. The first bracket indicates the whole soundscape, so it has to encompass the whole soundscape.
You should close it at the very end of the soundscape.
If you aren't indenting your brackets, then you should start. It makes it so much easier to see where things should be closed off.

Well I've fucked up.

I never sent in the subscription change form, and the account was charged for another 6 months as is before I woke up today.
There is no way to reduce the time I paid for with this server now -- I can't change it to be 2 months with a ping accelerator.
I have to pay for any changes I make now for the entire 6 months, and the cost of 6 months of a ping accelerator will cost me another 170 USD. That's a pretty penny that I'm just not willing to pay right now.

I can change it to 10 players right now with a much smaller charge, and I will. There will be no ping accelerator, and bad pings are going to stay just as they were.
Anyone who wants a refund for their donation can have one. Sorry.

Indeed.
Put at least one env_cubemap in your map, recompile, enable sv_cheats, type buildcubemaps. 6 images will be generated onscreen for every cubemap in the map.

When they're done, type map yourmapname in the console and it will be fixed.
And be sure to use the map command, not changelevel or retry or reconnect or anything.

Trainspotting
Pretty great narrative with an intense message-- very introspective, very quirky. Very much my kind of movie.
Reminiscent of Guy Ritchie films, but with emphasis on druggies instead of organized crime.
However, I felt that the ending was quite a let down with minimal closure.
I'd give it a 7.5/10, where 10/10 is life-changing.

Incomplete sentences.

Funny People
From the writer of Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin.
A dying comedian
Not a comedy, but rather a quirky drama with a lot of depressing undertones. But I knew this before watching.
Excellent premise and execution up until about halfway through, where the plot turns 180 degrees and starts leaning toward romance.
Though arguably Adam Sandler's best serious role, which was played very well, I wasn't entirely sure I liked the character by the end of the movie.
SPOILER: I was very disappointed to see Simmons get cured fairly early in the movie. From there, the movie is sort of just filler, and frankly I feel a "happily ever after" ending only hurt the film.

First half of the movie gets an 8.25/10, while the second half gets a 5/10.

That wall texture seems a little flat to me, though, unless that's the look you're going for
I guess. It's supposed to just be a plain, flat wall, but out of all of HL2's and CSS's textures, only 2 from de_inferno fit the bill.

I'm not really building it after anything so as much as building it with the same concept in mind. The layout is still mostly from compo 27.

Unfortunately, I am not being creative enough.
Also, I have a cubemap on each window. That's 102 cubemaps. Is this bad?

Yes, I don't like putting a time limit on it either.
Aside from not being some sort of competition, I also remember that several of the original rooms were added much, much later. It'd be a shame to exclude a new guy-- or someone who was just uninformed-- because of a deadline.

That assumes that the time limit would be relatively short, that is.

The second one is also clean, though.
It could be because all the little holes are the same size and the same depth. It's just too "perfect" looking.
