Sure you can. And guess what... its the same number. trillion billion means 1,000,000,000,000 x 1,000,000,000 while billion trillion means 1,000,000,000 x 1,000,000,000,000 and both of these are = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 and i dont know what that number is.

Wait... Diable 2 came out in 98 i think. If thats the case then it is my favorite computer game made between 90 and 98 hands down. I still play that game sometimes.

Ok maybe not. maybe its because it logged me out when I posted, but my post isnt up there anymore.

Basicly what I said was that HL1 was great but source makes a lot more things possible. HL2 was more believable for me, and I liked the story because they didnt tell you what was going on. you had to pick that stuff up by what was going on around you (although HL1 is pretty much the same way). I think HL2 is the natural progression of the game. Sure I wish it had more monsters for mapping purposes, but other than that its HL2 all the way. dont stand in the way of progress

Use a physics constraint and tie the object to something thats invisable (maybe a func wall, clear unbreakable glass, im not sure if the nodraw texture would work). Place some sort of sprite to make it look like energy from the gravity gun above, below or whatever. maybe you could make your invisable stand rotate very slowly to give the ilusion of suspension.

If your wanting to do this with some entity like a gun or a monster I have no idea.

If it sounds like I have no idea what im talking about, I dont. but thats the first thing I would try.

Oh yea. Need for Speed! Ive wasted many hrs on that game. Only the first two, after that I sorta lost interest. One of my friends had NFS1 on 3DO with a big screen tv, I used to play that every time I got the chance.

Ok call me a dumbass but I dont know how to use props or models. I cant find them. I hear people talking about folder steem/valve/models/props/whatever but I cant find the folder and I dont know how to use that stuff in a map. Can someone explain or direct me to a tut?

good story.

I used to have this old computer game called Dogs of War. It was a top view, 2 player, split screen, coop, shooting game. The object was to clear the levels of all badies and the better you did the bigger guns you could buy for the next level. one player would use the arrow keys and the other one would use asdw keys to move. Im not sure what year that was, but it was fun.

I also like the old NES games. original Mario brothers, Metroid, Zelda, river city ransom. I know those arent computer games and some of them might be from the late 80s but I dont care.

I have never made a DM map before and there are a couple things I am worried about. First, how can you make the people that die stay dead until the end of the match? Im sure there will be other things to address before im done but this is what I have so far.

My idea is to have rotating teleports that the player bumps into when entering the machine(its a little more complex than that but im keeping it a secret for now). when the room becomes empty, all the teleports that lead to that room are disabled. Each room is going to be specialized for different weapons.

I have some ideas on how to do this but it is crazy hard. Lots of triggers, lots and lots of i/o. maybe even a way to trick the teleports into being random, but it makes the equation 100 times harder. unless... Can triggers be made to rotate? or move like a func_train on a loop? If so I have an idea that may work.

The problem I forsee is how you are going to randomly teleport to another box. In my mind everything else is possible, but what would make it random?

Is it possible to make a light bulb in source? The lighting I have been using in source is either texter lighting or light entity and in some cases it looks kinda lame. I want something thats (nearly) round and glows like a light bulb. any ideas?

gman is gordon from the future? sounds good but i dont think the evidence quite matches. i am sticking to my guns that breen's body is controlled by an alien. think about it. the combine wants earth to completely give in to their wishes, so what do they do? they posses a human to tell the people on earth that its ok to give in. the only problem with that is breen says at one point that he can make any deal he wants with the combine. indicating that he is not one of them. maybe there is another alien race that the combine hired to take control of breen.

another thing, i bet you anything gordon is frozen between missions. you want to know how i know that? its of course because of the massive load times between levels. :lol: not really.... remember how the gman walks out of the room at the end of the game? i bet he leaves gordon there in the freezer until the next game. if you think about it the gman makes it sound like gordon has no idea that any time has passed at the beginning of the game and has to give him a small intro to whats going on in the world. not that he wants to imply that hes been sleeping, but wake up and smell the ashes...

heres a few details have come up with. breen isnt really human. he has a human body but it is posesed by an alien. right before the end of HL2 you hear him talking to the alien boss that wants to send him through the portal, and you hear breen answer that the host body could never survive. indicating that he is posessing that body.

Another thing i think is that gordan is like a hitman controlled by the gman. somewhere in HL2 i remember someone saying something about influencing gordan when he was young. meaning they might have brainwashed him and made him a trained killer. how else is a scientist going to kill the masses when all the other scientists die like bitches. another thing that makes me think gordan is somewhat like a hitman is when breen says something about gordons services being available to the highest bidder. at the end of the game the gman confirms this notion when he says something about receiving some interesting offers.

just some of my random thoughts about the game. :)

yes compo please. that would be nice. im working on a HL2 map right now that i think is kick ars. its the first map ive ever put real effort into (hl1 or hl2). i would like to go up against the best of TWHL. i dont expect to win but it would be fun.

I assume that the map is fullbright since you say there is a leak. if you think you have it tracked to one particalar corner try boxing that corner in and running the map to see if the problem is fixed. if that fixes the problem you might consider rebiulding the walls at that point, snapping to the grid at 8 or 16 units.

Some of the grass textures included with hammer have grass that sticks up. you just cant see it untill you run the map.

Im sure this seems like a basic question but im having trouble making the combine do my bidding. heres what i want... i want them to remain sleeping until they are triggered then i want them to run to a destination. I have the trigger set up so that they wake, but they wont go to the spot i want them to go. i have a path corner set up and named, and have it in the properties of the combine also. this particular trigger sets off about 6 other things and they all work, just not the combine.

any ideas?

by the way i searched snark pit and the sdk documentation and the hl2world or whatever its called, with no luck

there is a trigger that will kill them directly. it should be close to the one where you can set the health. i forget the exact name but i ran across it last night. something like On Input > kill or something of that nature

i havent tried it. it was just an idea. like instead of the target being "!player" "(not)player", the target would be player which would make them hostile. probably doesnt work, but its something to try. just some c++ logic for you.

This might have something to do with an option in the light properties menu. if memory serves me correctly the brightness of light is inversly proportional to the sqaure root of the distance or something like that. there is a box to enter other custom values for this equation, do you think you might have done that by accident? if so, see if you can set the values back to the default.

ok i have the trigger working now. so far what i have is really cool. the player walks to a place where the guard can see him, and he triggers the alarm. red flashing lights go off and a buzzer. after a few seconds a door bursts open and the combine are there. thats all well and good, but the problem is the combine wont follow their paths. in their properties menu i have them set up so that they are in sleep mode waiting for input. i have the trigger set up to wake them after a few seconds, and i have set up and named a path corner to try to get them to run out the door but they dont move. any ideas about what could be wrong?

also i didnt see any options that said whether they would run or walk. i would like them to run but im not sure that they will.

any help will be appreciated

ok here is my problem. I want to make something that triggers several things when the player walks through it. i think in HL1 that i would use a multi manager, but here im not sure what to do. heres what i want to happen. player triggers alarm which consists of a flashing light and buzzer. it would also start some combine in motion following their paths which leads through a door that bursts open at just the right time. if someone could tell me what entities to use or direct me to a tut that would be great. ive already checked with the release notes and stuff but didnt find anything.

Ahhh i just finished the game last night. very cool. follow freeman is freaking awesome. love the grav gun. love alex, i am worried about her. i did find it a little lacking when it comes to closure, but you cant beat the game play and visuals anywhere. i need to play it again to make sure im not missing any important aspects to the story.

since this thread is about the gman i better at least mention him; who is that guy and who does he work for??!? not that i think anyone can answer that question.

It could very well be a mapping problem. I ran into one of these myself where you first get the gravity gun and meet DOG. I was stuck in that valley for a long time with no way out and finally had to restart the chapter. When I got back to that same place I didnt do anything different, but it let me through.

I also agree with 7th somewhat. there is way to much effort being put into church and religios traditions and not enough helping people. churches have their place but there is too much focus being placed on them. just look at some of these multi million dollor churches, do you think that makes God happy? the bible does not command us to build extravagent places of worship. maybe thats beside the point, i dont know. im no expert
