Timezone/lag issues aside, I'm sure it would work provided the set-up is stable and the people in charge come up with regular events, etc. Give me or any of the Steam group admins a shout if you need events set up in the future.

in TWHL Database Hack Post #313029
It's not a question of space - most good hosts nowadays provide unlimited hosting/bandwidth, including the one TWHL is hosted on.

It is a question of creating a system to back up the map files though. That might take some time.

Fantastic voice. Also the intro has a Tom Waits-ish vibe to it, can't go wrong with that.

in Specifics of Decal Rendering Post #312497
World.cpp in the server project, CDecal class. Forgot the exact name of the method, but I referenced the one for static decals.

It's interesting how the bounding box appears to be smaller than the one defined in the game code. Then again, there's probably stuff to do with projecting the decal in the engine that changes things. Either way, good to see some consistency. :)

in Specifics of Decal Rendering Post #312484
In the game code it determines the world geometry affected by tracing along the min/max of a 10x10x10 bounding box centered around the origin of the infodecal.
User posted image
That makes sense on the left, as the bottom brush might be more than 5 units away from the infodecal origin. It's not as clear in your other screenshots, but I'd start from that figure.

You need to be more specific with your posts. Random "plz help me i am not good with computer" topics won't get you any proper attention or help.

If you expect others to spend their valuable time helping you (or in this case, doing your work for you), the least you could do is put some effort into properly explaining what you want done. You can't expect complete strangers to just pop up and do things for you off of a quickly-written 2-sentence post.

If you're not sure, read this tutorial for a better explanation of what I mean. It's aimed at mod proposals, but the general idea applies here too.

A MotM-winner-only tourney spanned across multiple days on HLDM, CS 1.6, CS Source, TF2 and Flat-Life Multiplayer! ~20 maps in total. Same frag/ticket system we've used for the previous tournaments. I'll pitch in for the prizes.

This would also provide a unique opportunity for different continents to host & level the playing field, as opposed to the usual EU-based slaughter.

  • In the near future you'll see our Website, Wiki and Forums all taken down temporarily for renovations.
  • On September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core. We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.
We are still working hard on Xen and BMDM, but instead of making you wait we are giving you Black Mesa as soon as it's ready! We're doing our best to help bring the immense vision of this project into reality, and we are very excited for what the future brings!

I think it's an awesome idea to release what they have up to Xen. Most of my favourite moments in the game happened in those chapters anyway. :D

Thoughts?

One of the lead devs said it's coming out "soonish" in a recent interview. I'd guess that's another year or so down the line.

Not sure if I like the soldiers' voice acting. Maybe it'll grow on me, but at the moment I would've preferred regular voices. To me it just doesn't sit right with the rest of the mod being ultra-attentive to adding realism/logic to the original environments.

I like it!

The roofs look kind of bland at the moment, but I'm assuming the player won't be able to see them from the ground level.

Also you could add more variation to the gutter piping along the walls of the red brick building. Think Victorian housing blocks with the plumbing on the outside.

Daubster can tell you the details on what we have over here @ Lithuania
Don't take my word for it (source of data)

The communications infrastructure is ridiculously well-established for such a small country. Fiber optic has pretty much been standard in city households for the past 3 years or so (i.e. the national telecom has been offering it as part of their cheapest standard packages). AFAIK, the fastest plans you can get nowadays offer 1 gbit d/l speeds at around £25/$33 per month.

In contrast, I am currently paying £30/month for a 60mbps connection with a very restrictive fair use policy in the UK.
