Oh, wait, sorry. I'm tired and missed the log entry. Check your compile settings, they must be messed up somewhere. If you're still stuck, post, but I'm going to bed now. Someone'll help at some point :)

Move your RMFs to a simpler directory like c:maps or e:hlmappingmaps. Avoid Steam directories, the "@" sign confuses a lot of programs.

Ydeeps: try starting a game conventionally within Steam. If that still doesn't work, upload your RMF and BSP to the Map Vault (see the left). Post on this thread when you've done so and someone'll have a look.

kamikaze: Post the whole compile log. The BSP is not produced if critical errors occur during compiling. Just the fact that the BSP didn't exist doesn't help much.

PAKs are from WON-HL, the 'old' HL. Steam doesn't use them, it uses something fairly similar though, files with the extension "GCF". They're fairly like ZIP archives, but can only be opened with a special program. Right now there's only one of those: GCFScape.

Once you've got GCFScape, the .GCFs are in SteamApps. You want half-life.gcf.

the carve tool and vertex manipluation are used for totally different things
No they are not!

They are used for manipulating brushes into shapes typically other than cuboids!

Read the tutorials on VM. Don't carve.

Are you sure it's not in the list? If necessary, edit the .map, on about the third line it lists the WADs being used. Change that, then compile without Hammer, i.e. use some a batch compiler like Nemesis's.

I know what you mean.

Here's an example line from sentences.txt:
BA_OK1 barney/dobettertogether
Now, when you set a scripted_sequence to play "!BA_OK1", the sentences.txt tells Half-Life to look in the directory "barney" (barney/) and then the file "dobettertogether". The file itself has a .WAV extension, but HL doesn't need to know that because five years ago, everyone used WAVs.

Hope that helps.
