Besides having the materials in your HL2 and HL2MP folders, you should have some folder like this ...myaccountsourcesdk_contenthl2materialsrcyourtextures

If you want the textures to show up with hl2mp, you need to copy that folder and make a ...myaccountsourcesdk_contenthl2mpmaterialsrcyourtextures

There are some smaller areas with combat, but the problem with the big areas is that it takes too long to get from one place to another. It's out of the question to include any modern means of transportation in the map.
I've never used combine snipers before. Great idea!

As you can guess by the title, this is a thread by me about my maps.
In the past Easter holidays, I made a HLDM and a HL map. However, the maps I've posted about in the forums are all for the Source engine.
Since these maps require harder work, I'd like to establish some sort of order or priority based on what the community finds more interesting.
I know what map the CS:Source community wants, and probably what Freshed will say if he sees this thread.

In order of when I started each:
Carceri: this HL2 singleplayer map looks great, but I can't find a way to include good gameplay in it. Some parts are just too big.

Tinnos:Source: this HL2DM proyect is sort of blocked. As many people observed, it just feels like HL, only a bit prettier. My bump map experiments began here.

cs_fallingwater: the cs:s version of Kaufmann House. It requires a lot of rework in the outside area in order to be playable. Tough one.

dm_sacrifice: There's very little actual mapping of this HL2DM project, but a lot of ideas and concepts have been decided. It could be a very original map. It would also need a lot of new materials.

In the country I live in, people usually wait until they have permanent jobs and a house to get married. As housing prices increase, the moment is postponed. So following those religious principles would mean not making love until you're at least 30-35.

I liked Nemesis the first time I saw it. After that, it just feels like a long TNG episode in which the Enterprise (how original) is badly damaged.
First Contact is great (2 of my maps are inspired by the film). I specially like the fact that it goes against standard sci-fi rules. The big space battle happens at the beginning and the rest takes place in the Enterprise, showing us it takes more than quantum torpedoes to beat the Borg.
Jerry Goldsmith's music is perfect as always, and the whole idea of the flight of the Phoenix is key to the whole ST universe.

legal and church marriages happen at the same time normally
And guess what, the church marriage is the one that has to wait until the legal one is possible (usually because of economic reasons)
The idea that two people can't love each other because of housing prices is pathetic.

The Doctor and Neelix are maybe the only characters for which you can feel sympathy in Voyager. 7 of 9 inspires different things.

Data will always be my favourite character. Like him, I sometimes find it difficult to understand some parts of human behaviour.
The Enterprise-E (from the movies) is the best ship.
The original series had good moments, but the sets and effects are quite old & bad if you compare it with the rest.
Deep Space Nine was strange. It was more like Babylon 5 than Star Trek.
Voyager had an interesting plot but I think it didnt have any memorable or charismatic characters.
I haven't seen a full episode of Enterprise yet...

I don't like saying so, but when I lived in California, a very high percentage of the intelligent "Honor roll" students were foreigners. That doesn't mean the rest were stupid, they just didn't care to learn. I was the Sixth Grade finalist in our Geography Bee in Middle School the year I arrived. There were quite a lot of people in Sixth grade and I didn't understand all the questions they asked me, so you can imagine what things were like if I got so far in the competition... :zonked:

Are you talking about tentacles in the game or in one of your maps?
If you mean the game, here's the walkthrough for that HL level http://www.planethalflife.com/half-life/guide/walkthrough/wt5.shtm.
If you are playing Opposing force, I think you're not meant to kill any of the tentacles.
Finally, if what you want is to kill the tentacles in your map, then I have never tried it...

The only thing I find strange is the tunnel under the orange building. If the buildings above it have their own internal structure, the tunnel should have no reason to be curved, it could just be a gallery.
Of course, this observation is strictly architectural. It doesn't affect the map visually or in the gameplay aspect.

in Reversing A Video? Post #176047
VirtualDub could help you do that. Open your video file, and then go to File>Save image sequence. I think the default is saving the images as TGA.
When you are done, go to the folder where the images are, and change the "sort by name" so that the last image is now the first in the list. Rename all the files at once so their names come out in order.
Now go back to virtualdub, go to File>Open, select "Image sequence" in the file type and select your images. The video should be reversed. Go to Video>Compression and choose a codec for the video (make sure the video option is set to full processing mode) and save your avi!

The main goal is to have a good post-disaster version. If you think a disaster step will look good before the post-disaster (to explain how this and that blew up), then go ahead. It's always a plus if your map is impressive or fun.

They didn't change the story so Christians were not offended. They did it so Christians would go see the film and pay the ticket. Once again, an economic decision.
Edit: In most Hollywood movies, you can also find that all races are usually present in the group of main characters. This decision is made to sell more tickets. It seems kind of racist to me though. Don't black people (for example) feel represented by a white main character? I though we were supossed to be equal.

A lot of humans died in those wars just cause of religion
Get it in your head that religion is the excuse the leaders (who are usually not believers) have used to justify their wars and get followers to fight in their ranks. The reasons for wars are almost always economic, political etc. The basic principles of most religions are against murder, war, theft etc.
Satchmo said something similar in this thread.

Guns are meant to KILL. Animals and Enemies. Not regular people.
I'm not going to talk about hunting and animals, but your "enemies" are also "regular people" to others (fathers, brothers etc). Wouldn't it be better to use a taser gun and stun them? Nope. Gun makers wouldn't get the money in that situation!

Same here! I got tired of stretching those brushes and messing up the corners, so it's been quite a long time since I haven't used it. It is useful if the texture on top of those brushes is seen and needs to bend in the corner (as seen in the base map for the current competition)
In terms of compiling (not ingame r_speeds), it still does a minimal job because there will be no face splitting (both brushes have one face in common). The number of polygons will be the same though.
As I've said in the Compo 20 thread, things that are only noticeable in the RMF are not worth fighting for. The BSP result is more important.

There aren't as many gangs in gun-controlled countries as in the USA. Only groups of "organized crime" and mafias have firearms. Some ex-security guards or ex-cop/army etc. own guns. Common criminals don't have easy access to those weapons. As you can guess, that's a huge difference.

In a country where guns are outlawed, there is no weapon escalation, that was my point. I think a place where you can be threatened with a pocket knife is better than a place where you can be threatened by a firearm, no doubt about it.
I'm sure a dying person with a bullet in his chest doesn't really care if his attacker has a permit or not.
If owning a firearm isn't that hard and most people can have one, it is no longer a means of dissuasion. It's like thinking that someone won't punch you because you also have fists.
My main concern reading all these comments is that people have actually come to think that having a gun is as natural as having a car. It's scary knowing there are places where you need a weapon to "feel safe"
Next thing will be tripmines in our front yards and ground to air missiles in our backyards, just so we can "defend ourselves" from intruders.

in America the Armed Post #175208
In another thread, someone said that criminals would be able to get a gun even if they were forbidden, so it was better if everyone had a firearm to defend themselves from these criminals.
This isn't entirely true. Criminals carry more guns with them if they know the place they will be attacking is also full of firearms. To give you an example, someone in a country where weapons are restricted could rob a shop just by threatening with a pocket knife.
If the issue was really "the right to defend myself", then we would be talking about taser guns, stun guns or pepper spray instead of bullets, right?

I am well aware of that, but the overlaps in this RMF are minimal. In fact, some people are thinking that some of those brushes are overlapping, but they are actually func_walls, and they don't interfere with world brushes.
I've never had any problems with compile times in any HL map, and longer compile times don't mean laggier maps. The final BSP faces will be the same, but the process needed to decide those faces is longer.
