Hm, close any mapping proggies you have open, start HL normally and run your map from the console.

If you don't understand how, read "Running a BSP" in the tutorials.

Yes, this probably is one of the hardest things in mapping. Just make one without doors that accompany the lift!

The angles aren't pointing up and down, they're a bird's-eye-view. I know it's irritating sometimes waiting for forums answers, but people might not be on sometimes when you are ;)

And about getright. TWHL uses quite some coding in the pages. I'm no MySQL or whatever expert but it's possible that getright doesn't find these due to the coding.
I'm pretty sure it's not this as I get links to the zip files themselves. More likely the server.

I've never had problems downloading from the 'Vault.

NULL means the face to which that texture is applied will not be rendered in game, I'm pretty sure.

HINT is used to help VIS along by sorta, doing some of its work for it :)
