That’s right, I’m back on my bullshit again. So in the past few days I looked up
one of my old fan fiction threads and skim read a large portion of it. Considering that I wrote this story around 17 years ago it was… excruciating and not just because of the broken formatting. On a positive note, it did cause me to realise just how much my creative writing has improved in recent years. However, it has also stirred something in me and I’ve been tempted to pick it up again. I’m aware that this same idea came to me around two years ago and the thread was opened and promptly closed again when I realised I didn’t have the drive to keep it up.
So, what is the multiple choice fan fiction. Well, in a nutshell, I write a small segment of a story set within the Half-Life universe and then wrap things up with the protagonist(s) having to chose from a set of options. Then, anyone following the story can choose which path to take, as well as provide any notes along the way. Think of it being kind of like the old “choose your own adventure” books, though ultimately with only one path explored as I will only have a small snippet in mind for how each choice will play out.
Characters can and will die.So, I’m thinking of going back to the tried and tested method of putting the first choice of whether or not I do this to the people of TWHL, and if so, which story we explore. That way you get an idea of how the choices work.
A) Write a story about a group of rebels in City17 during the uprising
B) Write a story about a band of survivors in Black Mesa during the resonance cascade.
C) Write a story about a squad of the HECU sent into Black Mesa
D) Write a story about a group of civilians caught up in the 7 Hours War
E) Write a post about how this was a bad idea, nobody cares and the thread should be closed immediately.
