Amazing piece of work. I don't think Valve could've done much better. The eye candies are everywhere.

...but I am stuck. I am at the bottom of this generator complex, and I got all the way to the bottom. I faught off all the combines on that twisting stairs, and killed all the fast and poisonous headcrabs at the bottom. I opened all the doors, but there isn't anything at the bottom.

The whole complex shakes every now and then, and the light flickers.

What do I do now?

I am glad you're relatively unscathed. That's the most important thing.

I knew a friend who hit his head on the windshield during an accident, and he was never the same after that. He became very stupid, and he never finished college.

It was sad, because he used to be a pretty smart guy.

Wait enough time, and we'll see a lot more custom models and textures for HL2 maps.

Remember, HL1 mapping has been around for a long time. HL2 will get there eventually.

I didn't like the teleporter in HL1. The one where you get randomly teleported to different levels in that generator thing.

How annoying to have to do it over and over again to get it right. Requires random luck and no skill at all.

However, the Sandtrap chapter was frustrating. I hated the "touch the sand and get swarmed with antlions" deal.

I can't think of another PC game that people would play over and ove again for so many times.

It tells you just how good HL1 is. It's being played six or seven years after it was released. Most games would not even survive that long on the HDD. I uninstalled FarCry after going through it once.

Baby Jesus?

He's just a product of yet another unwanted pregnancy. Mary was audacious enough to invent a story of immaculate conception after she slept around with some drunk and got pregnant. The most amazing thing is that millions of people bought her story.

Imagine a teenage girl nowaday try to explain that she got impregnated by God. People would laugh their heads off.

HL1: 1 1/2 times. I was just playing this morning. I am nearing the end of "Power Up", before launching the rocket.

HL2: 2 1/5 times. I just finished "Route Kanal", and I am going through the underground brick maze right now, dodging those damn barnacles and manhacks. Man, do I wish I had a gravity gun against those manhacks. They're a real pain in the butt with just a SMG and a crowbar.

I prefer mapping for single-players more, because you could play it too, even without a server that runs your map.

Multiplayer maps are difficult to get actual gameplay feedback. Unless you get a server to run your map, you might never get to play your map. In fact, I would say that 99% of deathmatch maps never get played.

I don't really think that beating-endurance is a selling point of monitors for the majority of people, pepper.
Perhaps that's how he conducts a "video stress test".

My new LCD arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, it has a single dead pixel (blue) near the bottom of the screen. The warranty doesn't cover replacement unless there are more than 10 dead pixels.

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the monitor did ship with a DVI cable. So that's the setup right now. Personally, I can't tell the difference between DVI and analog, but that's fine.

By the way, half way through composing my post, the power went out in the medical building. So I had to re-type the whole thing.

Annoying as hell.

I am so proud of my brother, who passed the California bar on the first try several years ago.
From the Los Angeles Times:

A High Bar for Lawyers
Today, 5,260 people begin taking the state licensing exam. More than half will fail. And keep failing. Just ask the mayor of Los Angeles.
By Maura Dolan
Times Staff Writer

February 21, 2006

Former San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Angela Alioto won't even say how many times she failed the California bar examination before she finally was licensed to practice law.

"Consider it to be several," said the antidiscrimination lawyer and daughter of the late San Francisco mayor and famed antitrust lawyer, Joseph Alioto.

"And understand," she quickly added, "that for the last two years in a row I have been nominated as a national trial lawyer of the year."

Add two former governors, an eminent legal scholar and a former state Supreme Court justice to the ranks of those, like Alioto, who learned the hard way that obtaining a license to practice law in California is hard. In fact, it's harder than in almost every other state.

Of the 5,260 people expected to take the state's bar examination beginning today, more than half are likely to fail, rates from previous years indicate. Some law school graduates, like Alioto, flunk the bar multiple times before finally passing and becoming lawyers.

Others give up.

I noticed that the new monitor supports DVI input. I believe my Radeon 9800 Pro can output DVI signal.

My questions is: should I bother with DVI, or is analog good enough for gaming purposes?

If I want DVI input, I need to get the connection cord for it. I don't think the LCD ships with that.
