Kasperg, your Kaufmann house looks beautiful. I love it.

However, the rocky cliff texture in screenie #1 looks really distorted and stretched somehow. I am sure you'll get around to fixing that.

Make sure you make it available for downloading once you're done with this project. My brother is an aspiring architect too, even though he works as an attorney during the daytime.

Ahh...the birth of a new server.

It's like founding a new nation. Things tend to be a bit rough on the edges at first, but that's how every great nation starts.

...and sorry, Trapt. I didn't mean to diss you. It's just that there's no good mutual time for everyone, and Australia just lies in a completely opposite schedule compared to everyone else.

Great idea.

How about Saturdays (starting tomorrow) at this time?

We can also use this to coordinate a mutual time for everyone in different time zones.
Everyone go on the Server between 18:00 to 19:00
You forgot that TWHL is an international community. We all live in different time zones. 18:00 at which time zone?

Most religions are tainted by eliticism and exclusivism. Perfect examples are Christianity and Islam--if you're not one of us, then you must be against us. There is no tolerance for any other way of thinking except their own.

You can tell that I am not religious.

Therefore, violent conflicts ensue. I can confidently say that world peace would never be possible as long as we have these religions.

The only religion that does not endorse violence and eliticism is Buddhism. Have you ever heard of a Buddhist terrorist? Or a Buddhist Crusade?

I don't know what happened, but for the past few days, I cannot join any public CS:S server. The server list refreshes, but after I pick a server to play, the console displays "Connecting to server...". After five seconds, I get an error message "Connection failed after 4 tries."

I tried many servers, but I got the same message. When I play a LAN game, everything is fine.

I can't figure out what's wrong. :(

[EDIT]: It seems like a lot of people are having this problem after the Steam Update on Dec. 23rd. It happens with HL2DM as well as DoD:S servers. There doesn't seem to be a real solution yet. I think this is yet another Valve's bugs that was introduced with the rushed updates.

For some reasons, the lighting effect in these 3D architetural programs are not realistic. HL1's engine renders light and shadow much better, even though it's old technology.

I spent the last two weeks (everyday) fine-tuning bots navigation for my cs_justice map. It's fun watching the bots strategize. The only way to test the outcome is to play the map with the bots.

I've gotten very very good at tuning the mesh. Sometimes the bots are so intelligent that it's scary. I was sniping the CTs from a hiding spot on the roof, and the bots somehow figured that out. They sent a team of three CTs from the ground level all the way to the roof and killed me there.

Well, but I like the way this thread is evolving. The map discussion is quite interesting.

I have never played a custom map for CS:S on a public server, but I know my maps are being played. One of the guys who run a server told me that my map was voted into rotation, but he never told me the server address.

In addition, my map is downloaded over 1450 times. So I think the odds are that it's being played on more than one server.

Just the thought of having my maps played is enough for me to continue mapping for CS:S.

I am convinced that it's a Valve conspiracy to force mappers to beta-test their Hammer. Want it or not, we're being recruited as beta-testers for them.

HL games are usually more popular than other games, so a mapper has more guarantees that the map will be downloaded, commented on and even played.
That's why I map for HL/HL2. And because CS/CS:S is so popular, I ventured into that arena as well.

There's no point mapping for something that no one else will ever play.
The moment I was waiting for a long time: Seventh thats spelled English!
<sigh>I wish someone could've pointed out to him earlier that was intentional.

Mapping is a lot more enjoyable than playing the game itself. Of course, able to play your own maps is crucial in mapping, so the game itself is obviously important.

I fixed the side chassis fan--the power connector was just loose. However, I don't see the power connector to the front chassis fan, and it's still not turning.

However, after the side fan works, my idle CPU temp is now a cool 45 Celsius. Even after I play Source games with HDR on, it only goes up to about 51 Celsius.

I never knew that a single case fan would make such a big difference in CPU temperature.

It's a custom-built machine.

Thanks for the reassurance. I am not cheap, but when I opened up the chassis this morning, I couldn't figure out an easy way to exchange the fan in the front chassis. No screws, no plastic tab things...nothing.

I'll just let it be for now. If I can play FarCry and CS:S without heating up the computer too much, I think I"ll be fine.

I just noticed that both of my chassis fans went out. But I am wondering, how important are those fans anyway? Are they really necessary if I don't overclock my machine?

I went through thirty rounds of CS:S straight, and the CPU temp reads 54 Celsius. That ain't bad. So does this mean I don't have to worry about replacing them?

I have an Athlon 3200+ XP.
