But I don't know anything about computers. Thats why I posted this forum... I want a comp. That'll run hl2 good with no lag and good graphics for a reasonable price. 600 seams reasonable.

Lol im not lazy, im about to go to work right now for a 9 hour shift and I have over $2000 dollars right now but I was told that someone could find a "used" pc that ran hl2 good for $300 on the craigslist.com. Being a used computer, I wouldn't want to spend that much. $600 seems reasonable. How much could I have a computer built for that ran hl2 "good with good graphics and not laggy"?

Can someone help me find a hl2 compatible computer for around $300 or less. The craigslist was mentioned to me, but im not sure if it is a trustworthy website because I have never used it before. I just need help because I don't know what hl2 reqires for good smooth gameplay and with some help, maybe I could find a computer on the website worth buying.

Building seems the best choice but I don't know much about computers so im kinda stuck... I just found an old computer in my garage and put it in my room, erased a lot of stuff on it, and got hammer 3.4 running good on it thow slightly laggy. Is it easy to build a computer if someone tells you all the parts you need to buy to run hl2. Say like Luke, if you told me what I needed, Could I get the stuff and build it or get the stuff and have someone build it for me for cheap?

Can someone answer these questions?

-Can you make much more complex maps in hl2 than hl1 with more entities and faces and without it being laggy, does hl2 come with lots of textures and sprites, Is the lighting better? oh yea and does hl2 have some kind of terrain editor where you dont have to use vertex manipulation?

Awesome! Maybe Ill try to actually use parts from my old one. Hopefully I can get a good deal getting someone to build me one and not get ripped off because I dont know jack about computers. Thanks for the helpfull information blitzkrieg and thanks for pointing out the obvious srry. Srry is there anyway you could find a good deal comp for me that I could buy that would run hl2 smoothly, 300 bucks for one would kick a! "all I need is the computer itself" I have monitor, keyboard, etc.

I have mapped with halflife 1 for probably around 3 years. The computers I have mapped on are ones that are just good enough to do so that my parents have bought over the years. I dont think they are that good of computers because over time they would usualy "quit working" where I could no longer test maps I had made in hammer. Also they are usualy laggy during mapping which usually just causes me not to finish maps. Or while working on a complex map for hl1 they would begin to show up missing walls or entities after testing the maps while no bugs were apparent. I use hammer to make houses because Im becoming an architect but hl1 has its obvious problems like fake looking water, not so great lighting, dull textures and so on. I actually dont even have hl2 because I dont think this computer would handle it so I just want to know a few key things that would help me decide weather I should buy a new computer for hl2 or just stick with hl1. First of all, I am wondering if mapping for hl2 is somewhat similar to mapping for hl1 i.e. would it be easy to pick up. Another few things I really would like to know are -Can you make much more complex maps in hl2 than hl1 with more entities and faces and without it being laggy, Are all of the textures better and clear and does hl2 come with lots of them, Is the lighting better, do problems come up a lot with its mapping program, Is the working grid smaller? Also I notice in a lot of hl2 maps that there are many prefabs and models in most maps i.e. trees that heater thing and so on. Is this because hl2 comes with lots of them? and basicaly is it worth me paying a crap load of money to get or should I just stick with good old gold. Also, If I buy a computer how much would I have to spend to get hl2 running smoothly"Right now I have a little over 1000 to possibly spend" but I would like to spend as little as possible.

"Is it worth all that money?"

-kasperg hopefully I can get your opinion.

I still havent even touched hammer towards my map besides seeing if I could get something to work. I have a lot of plans on paper and will probably pretty much finish the plans today and start tomorow. According to my plans so far it will be pretty complex and hopefully my computer can handle it. Im not worried about it being too big, but it just has a lot of stuff inside it. Also I hope theres a few gold entries that put some effort towards their maps because otherwise all this effort will seem pointless.

Yall should spend more time on each part of the map. Don't forget, this is a competition. It is a chance to show off all of your skills to the max. Look at each part of the floor plan once at a time/ Not the entire thing at once. Go the extra mile and add that vent or trim. And really plan it out before you get started. 2nd place means your the first to lose!

dude you can't even make a modification that small... I was going to do the exact same thing because I didn't want such a dead end on a multi player map. n btw hlhotdog won too. n the only reason doodle won was because noone else entered for source besides that efortless pond.

Its not a dumb reason not to enter. I have many really good ideas for a competition. The only thing dumb is to not allow the winner to decide. I entered the water competition thinking I would have a chance at choosing the next one but apparently even if I had won first place, I wouldn't have had a say...

-Anyways, say if I did enter this competition... If I won first place would yall atleast consider some of my ideas?

Im prolly entering but im just wondering. Did the winner of the water compo "hotdog or doodle" decide on this theme? Because I probably wont want to enter if I know winning wont allow me to make the next compo theme. By the way, rimrock already had a map with the same floor plan as the compo's, hmm strange. Lol jk...

I have a very old half-life cd that is installed on my computer. When I try to play internet games it tries to look for updates but can't find any, so my brother just bought a new half-life cd. We put it in and it didnt ask us for the cd key this time but we reinstalled it "the new cd" and when trying to play internet games, it doesn't work. Some one told me something about needing deathmatch classic to allow it to work so i downloaded it but had no success. Please help me get hl working on internet, I have good internet connection"cable" and everything.

It seems that people took the idea of believe what you want too far and now think that what ever they believe is true no matter what. People that have fallen into belief in things like scientology wont even acknowledge or take into account things that prove their pure untruth. Believe what you want but don't decide to believe in something without lots of research, understanding, and an open mind.

-If I see an ant and say oh its such a good pet but than pick it up to be biten, I learn that it is not a good pet. People that say oh, scientology looks good and than become a believer get bit and bit and bit but dont do anything about it and become stubborn.

The reason I belive in christianity is that it is a religion that persues all morals as the standard to what is considered riteousness to God. Some religions belive that it is right to kill people from other religions while christianity says "Thou shall not kill." Period. Theres nothing in christianity that I have found yet to contradict itself. Thow this is true, Don't look at people who say they are christians but dont act upon it because they are the ones that make people decide that we are just a bunch of fake people. And not many but almost all the people I know are fake in that they dont stay true to their words, curse all the time, litter, start fights, flick off other drivers, gossip constantly, don't help others whenever they get a chance, and " Go to church every sunday!" Many people are like this but some are actually "Real" and true to their words.

Something like this happened to me in hl1. It was with a half life texture so what i did was "open up the texture in wally. Than copied it and saved it as my own texture with a new name and than replaced the halflife texture with my newly made texture in hammer and for some reason it fixed it" :)
