That sv_allowmonsters cvar is set in the server.cfg (or listenserver.cfg for LAN).

You would build your map as you would any other map. Upload it to your server (or set up a server on your computer). Once you have access to the server files, you need to add "sv_allowmonsters 1" to the server's config file. Restart the server.

Adding monsters is not uncommon in multiplayer maps, but to give them AI or scripted sequences lags the server severely. Most people put them in a cage so that the server can handle it AND all the people.

in Beginner Question! Post #56386
Please do NOT set the models for the teamplay aspect of Halflife. Let the server do that. If you do, your map won't be used very much for that. Let me give you an example:

Bridge22 is a popular HL multiplayer map. Whoever made it assigned "scientist" and "grunt" to be the default models in teamplay. So we were running along in our 3 map match when Bridge22, the second map in the rotation, starts up. Now our teams are no longer our clan models. We are scientists and grunts. We had to cancel the match and replay it at a later date, without Bridge22.

If I ever set the server up to for teamplay, I have to leave Bridge22 out of the cycle. The mp_teamplaymodels cvar must be set in the server.cfg but they don't override the map's settings. Maybe with STEAM, it would. But it's just better all around to leave that up to those who wish to play your map as a teamplay map.

Valve should have decided to make this map specific or server specific... not both. Mappers who spawn teams for Halflife maps are defeating their own intentions of having a nice teamplay map.

Oh! This is about the "Shout out" box...

When you type what you're going to say, and then you hit "go", it processes the entry and returns you to the TOP of the shoutbox window. I think it would be nicer to land at what you've "shouted". Maybe an automatic refresh as well....

I'm not sure how this got out of whatever thread this was in. I believe I was wanting, like monkeychow says, that when you "return to your post" that it does just that... return you to YOUR post... at the end... not to page one.

It may also be nice to have a button or two at the bottom of the template that links you back to the top or back to the forum you were in. An easy-to-navigate forum is a godsend in the electronic jungle.

The only excuses that I see fit to deny a member using correct grammer are:

1.) English is not their natural language
2.) They are uneducated.
There is a third (in my opinion) valid reason and that is to maneuver around the censorship rules on a webpage... 4uck censorship.

It'll just create hoardes of 'one login wonders' making idle accounts, and very little else difference.
You could have several hundred thousand "one login wonders" before the server would see any stress. And the people who are serious would register.

The difference - The people looking for the "easy" answer, would have to decide between searching for the answer or registering and posting... a similar amount of energy to decide between, equalizing the now lop-sided "path of least resistance".

I wouldn't delete any posts, myself, because it's a history you can come back to. And it does not "punish" anonymous in any way, but punishes the forum admin by wasting his time manually deleting posts.

Our servers (Voodoo Death Clan) went to STEAM the day steam released. We had TONS of business... it's since died down now that WON has dissolved and everyone is peddling the same product, but if you can be first in the market, with a good product, consumer loyalty will maintain your (increased) marketshare. If you were to look at Handy Vandal's website, you'd have noticed that they have a HL2 Almanac... and they've had that ready since Valve's first HL2 press release.

Yes, it's good.

(PS. Ever read that guy's bio? If anyone knows website marketing, it's that guy.)

I understand that the poems, prayers, and promises of Valve have been a bit "iffy" this last year, but it seems HL2 is coming. I'm suggesting you make provisions for this now, so the templates are in place. Maybe have your most experienced members get some of the preliminary tutorials in place as soon as the SDK is released?

I have seen something on this once, but I don't remember what it does. I think it can be set either 0 (default) or 1. I think it makes the object act in conjunction with a light_spot as if it were an info_null. True? False? More?

I'm right at this point in my texture gathering! I have done what is said above, but I tried to change the index 255 color to match my color. I believe that the blue that is used is true blue ( 0, 0, 255), if I'm not mistaken.

My question is two fold. Can I either set the index color to match my fill color, or can I use RGB 0,0,255 as the fill in PaintShopPro and have it work in Wally?

Default is 800. 200 makes it look like your jumping with a longjump, even if you don't have it, and 1600 will kill you if you fall off of the curb.

place your cursor in one of the windows (x/y,y/z, or x,z) and hit enter when your brush tool makes a dashed line. If your cursor isn't in the window, it won't create it. Also, if you select another tool, the dashed lines disappear. When you re-select the block tool, they return. Just hit enter.

It's pointless. I don't need a special program to show me the custom games menu, thank-you very much. Updating? Fine. New servers, better browser, etc, sure thing. Pointless extra program? Unnecessary!
Pointless to you, but a company that doesn't market its product is destined to die... (I can't believe I'm defending this specific point) And the button is a damnsight better than the pop-ups.

Steam only transfers content from either Valve or servers. STEAM doesn't give you viruses. I don't know how you'd put a virus into a format that STEAM transfers. I guess you could put it in the overviews.txt.... thinking out loud....

The serial number is 1/10th the law, so having both = legal. The cooledit2000 is just fine. And I'm sure I can make the 30 day trial a bit longer, if I need to.
