Wrong way 'round, Microsoft goon!

It's a good thread. Everyone can post in it, and people do introduce each other to new music over IRC 'cos've it. Plus you might find shared interests.

Stop using IE. Use Opera or Firefox, both free.

Process Explorer also allows you to suspend applications, so their on-exit routines don't get run, but nasty things can't restore themselves.

I don't like the look of "eooosfw.exe". I wouldn't be suprised if, the next time you start up, that's gone, and something with a different name is in its place. Probably a worm. istsvc.exe is spyware. I can't see anything else. I suggest you replace Task Manager with the superb Process Explorer for more information on what's running.

25% CPU usage is not crashing your PC. Something related may be. I'm assuming that that's 2000/XP Pro, so do this:

1. Start -> Run -> cmd
2. tasklist /v > c:proc.txt
3. Host c:proc.txt somewhere and link to it. I can host it if you don't have anywhere ? e-mail me it.

So it's more of a limitation? I'm aware of the 'raw clock' beating things, and they make perfect sense in most cases. You want to calculate pi with a particular algorithm, you need either lots of a particular unit, or for it to go fast on its own.
