Are you not able to keybind the the WASD keys, or am I daft and just don't see them?
I use an odd ASDF for FPS games, with F&A Back/forth, and S&D for strafe

Also can you bind the options screen to a hotkey? I seem to spend a lot of time in there managing WADs.. I just noticed the button, nice =P

2 cents on the look of tool icons
I think sledge's tool icons would look better with a more standardized style, i.e. fewer colors and simpler design, making them more-easily recognizable. The current ones are just a bit visually distracting to me, even tho I use hotkeys anyway :P

Texture Browser search field note
When you select a new package(WAD), the search field should be cleared imo ;)

Text tool Note
I was very pleasently surprised to find the Text tool supports Alt codes! =PP

You can really streamline your workflow due to nearly everything being customizable, as well the new-and-improved features make it hard to go back to Hammer... Most-all the major bugs are fixed now; Sledge is truly a joy to work with ;)

Btw, I'm finding the rotate widget very useful. Effortlessly being able to change the pivot point is awesome stuff! It would be effortless to make some simple env_render animations now :P

Is there a way to change the default save type to RMF? I thought there was... I started using RMF format only due to problems with VMF

That would be useful. Or simply add something that excludes duplicated textures everytime instead, no matter what.
The only problem is how to choose which wad's textures you want, e.g. i have custom DEV textures to resemble source, and if some other WAD has an aaatrigger brush, I'd wouldn't want my textures excluded ;)
Nah. You just need a prefab for it, then you just scale it or resize it with the VM tool.
True :) I'm guessing a tool like this would only work with cubes, but it would be neat if you could do other shapes without error; It would be like an advanced Hollow tool basically :)

That's an interesting idea Archie. My only question would be what to do with the corners.. it might be nice if Sledge automatically mitred the joints?

Maybe PB could someday add this as a wireframe primitive? Also a skybox primitive might be nice, or possibly make it a toggle option for Hollow to sort the edges?

Whitelist addon request
I would like to be able to choose a "Primary" WAD in the texture whitelist, which would mean any duplicate texture names from other WADS would be eliminated from the texture browser list. right now I use wally to manually delete duplicates, no big deal

I've never heard or seen the problem of duplicate name/keyvalues like that, have you used 2 FGD in Hammer before? If not the FGDs, I don't know what would cause this.
Have you tried temporarily removing one of the FGD and see if that clears it?

As far as your lighting issue, post a problem map so we can take a look, or at least post your compile log. Do texlights or normal point lights work? I'm guessing something is buggering RAD, but no idea why

Btw, if you are mapping in Sledge, try the Sledge compiler if you haven't already, it works great :)

What are the chances of anyone actually making a good amount of it?
The chances pretty good imo, considering your skills/knowledge, and the fact you are familiar with CS is a BIG plus.

Rabideh's cs_hijack is basically #1 on the workshop right now, and the only reason it might not make an operation is because them map is partially a port from MW2(that's what people are commenting, I never played mw2), but otherwise that map would be guaranteed to make an operation.

If you map makes an operation, you get a percentage of the sales of crates and special items offered during the 90 days the operation runs. I don't know how much you would make, but I'm guessing, $25-50,000 or more.

Instant Mix
Excellent idea! In the meantime keep the shape handy as a prefab, and scale it to the size needed. You can keep it on-grid by scaling at certain increments, though I can't remember offhand what they are ;)

I love in Sledge you can isolate WADs by selecting them in the texture browser, which makes managing tons of WADs easy. Also since I started using RMF over VMF, I have no major bugs whatsoever :P

in problem with entity work Post #322425
Stojkens should know how to do this, shouldn't be that complicated. Without knowing anything about this kind of stuff, I have a couple guesses:
Setting the button reset to -1 makes it impossible to retrigger in future rounds.
What have you tried to reset it? Does killing it remove it forever or just from that round?
Setting a master for the button that is turned off after first usage makes it possible to turn off the button at least one more time firing the sequence again.
There has to be a way to reset this via MM. Upload a test map if you can, and I'll play with it if you like.

With 5 forums and 5 slots in the active forums list, it seems natural that you should always see the top post of one of the forums, i.e., you would never have 2 posts from the same forum in the list, but rather it would replace the current one.

Not a big deal, just a thought.

There's just no real reason/need when you could just have an extra HDD.

RAID still fail too, so continue to do hard backups of your work. I image my whole drive mothly, and archive as many images as I have room for.

You'd be better off imo just having 2 HDD an make your image backups there. You could also maintain uncompressed copies(for convenience) to important things like your steamapps directory and digital work on the second HDD.

I would personally like to switch to a cloud backup eventually, but I'm sure that has it's problems/hassles too.

Good to know! Also, I forgot about Twister! I will definitely be checking it out for my next GS map :)

QuickHide Bug
If I Quickhide an object or group, Ctrl+S and then reload map, whatever I had hidden disappears from the VMF! Saving as RMF and reloading makes the objects visible again, so this like the clip error are inherent of the VMF format; I'll use RMF format instead for now to avoid these problems.
Edit
Just tested, and Visgroups also seem to work perfectly using RMF, which means half the errors I have been sending you only occur because I've been saving my maps as VMF format? :o

Object Properties window note
It would be nice if Sledge remembered where your last object properties was opened. Same goes for the check for problems window, compile dialog, etc. apologies if I missed the option for this

Func_button delay before reset note
I can only set whole numbers for the delay time?

Spraypaint Mode Suggestion
Holding down right click in Texture Properties would enter spraypaint mode, i.e., your current texture would apply to any face your pointer hovers over.

After looking at the screens, the only things I could recommend are things you've clearly already done, but maybe double check all your visblocking structures are world brushes.

Lol, some screenshots of your map might help diagnosing too, but FPS optimization comes down to proper visblocking, or basically: limiting the number of areas a player can see into at once.

There is a great overview of the visibility process over at Interlopers, plus excellent video tutorials are available by 3kliksphilip, and GameBanana's Will2k has released some great optimization-related articles recently.

As with anything mapping related, The Valve Developer Community has articles describing Visibility Optimization. the same principles apply to Source or GoldSrc

As Tet mentioned, what tools you're using is very important: DO NOT compile with the stock Hammer ones!

Anyone feel free to start the competition topic, or I can do it. Here's a preliminary brief if we do this:

Basemap Minicompo #1

By Trempler

Rules
1. Build something based on Trempler's basemap.
2. You may alter the original basemap brushwork as you see fit, while always trying to keep the essence of the original shape.
3. Engine is GS Half-life. Use the 2 included WADs, plus 10 extra textures of your choice. Models, sounds, sky, sprites can be custom.
4. Judged by community voting.
5. Deadline?
6. Prizes?

Trempler's basemap ;)

Also a small thing, I think this dropdown list should be in alphabetical order, and the default brush entity set to func_detail.

One more small thing, I wish To Enity did not result in the window popping up, or make it a toggle. (I realize this is the standard behavior from Hammer)

Last but not least, there is still considerable VM lag with semi-complex objects.

Everyone loves a basemap, why not run a basemap minicompo?

They are fast and fun to make, and knowing you don't have to add much fine detail to the map makes it that much easier to join in.

The winner's map could be made into an official TWHL basemap compo, OR perhaps any the entries to the minicompo could be chosen to enter in the official contest.

If you wanted to go crazy, each basemap entry could then be used for a subsequent minicompo. Just spitballing here; there are a lot of directions we could take this, also with prizes and whatnot..

Would anyone else be interested in something like this?

Note
I would also recommend Vanilla HL entries only for simplicity, fairness, and ease to link them all together for a mappack/preview(ala cubicles).
