in Telefragging issue/advanced teleporter Post #154000
Instead of teleporters, why not have the floor dissapear/move and drop them in a pit (with water on the floor to ensure no damage) there they could have their brawl, and after that have the big teleporter bring them back to the main arena (with the floor back in place of course.) I know you don't want to deviate from your original plans, but your first idea may not be possible/practical.

Well, according to everyone here, it is the only way to do it, so he can do it their way, or not do it at all. There is always coding, but if he refuses to create a button to trigger a sound, coding is prolly out of the question as well.

in What Made You a Mapper? Post #153419
When I first started mapping was.. last year - May 2005. My friend was bragging about how he could make 1337 CS maps. He showed me one, and it was crap. It was an fy map with 6 walls, invisible ladders (cuz he didnt know how to func_wall a ladder to make blue parts invis) and the top was a floor with a texture stretched the whole length of the floor. I though he just couldn't think of any good ideas, so I sketched him out a map and asked him to try and make it..
Weeks passed by, and finally had the finished product.. Utter crap, it was nothing like what I wanted. The kid didnt know how to make a wedge, clip, use VM, use the texture application tool, or even change the grid size. He brought his computer in and showed me how to use the editor, and I tooled around on his computer with it. I didnt know anything about it so, I attempted to make my own map. I finished it, and submitted it on a server, and was shamed for its utter crapiness.
He gave my the VHE install, the CS-expert fgd, and ZHLT, and the Half-life wad and set me loose. I was completely lost. I googled for tuts, and found egir.dk. I learned that my fgd was out of date, so I downloaded the most recent one. It helped for the basics, but I didn't know how to use 75% of the entities. I searched google for "CS entity guide" and found TWHL. I read the tuts, learned how to use the tools read every single description for CS entities, and now I can make decent maps (if I ever finish any of them.) And just for closure.. I am a much better mapper than him now. :)

I dont mean to spam this thread, but I'm at work right now, so I can't "take a mini break from whatever else I'm doing" when I'm not a work, I'm with my girlfriend, or mapping, or doing homework, or at school. I cherish my free time, and I get things done that I need to do. rating other people's maps just doesnt fit in sometimes. I'm sorry, if that offends anyone.

in Grass??!! Post #153154
Yeah, I dont suggest using sprites for grass (sprites are best used for symmetrical things, like spheres. ex: env_glow). If you walk on top of them, and look down.. you get a pathetic view of the grass (try it out for yourself if you dont know what I mean) Models are definately nice (check out de_airstrip for a good example of model plants. I agree with Cap'n, the triangle method gets messy after a while. Also, most HL maps dont go overboard with the terrain, it is just unnatural to have extremely uneven terrain, you can make a subtle difference, but the product isnt worth the r_speeds it can produce.

Hey, its not our responsibility to to take you though the baby steps of mapping, so don't get upset when we try to help you. Elon was pointing you in the right direction. Have a multimanager (read the tuts if you dont know what one is) triggerred at the round start. Make it trigger the door you want to open after a set amount of time.

in Another comic.... Post #152675
tis not that bad. I agree that the facial expressions are a little off, but the purpose of the comic is laughable. It is a little confusing at the garage part, but you eventually figure it out when the guy is shot. I'd say 7/10. Woulda been 10/10 if the face posing, and the text bubbles looked better.

I liked this one a lot, just as I liked the other ones.. It just seems to jump around a lot. it goes from theif to combine, and the "fight" is overwith almost instantly. good work, but maybe have a little more patience when it comes to putting in a funny joke, take more time to develope the story. all in all, 4.5/5 I liked it.

I thought it looked pretty sweet. If I had HL2 I'd want to play it. Another thing to mention, I have only played a little HL2, but did it have that adrenaline boost feature in it, he took less damage, and everything was slo-mo.. I dont know if that was in HL2, but its pretty sweet nonetheless.

in New Sub Zero Mod Screens Post #151914
It looks like you took some time on texture alignment and solid decent brushwork, I think they all look good. I like the attention to detail in szero9. the tubes leading into the chambers, it adds a nice touch... The whole thing has a very HL1ish style to it; the trashcans, the scientists at control panels, the over-the-top looking machines, the computer monitors on the walls. Over all, I think it looks nice.
You usually map for Sven Co-Op, correct? Is this going to be like Sven Co=Op, or more of a Half-Life feel?

I want DDR Ultramix 1 2 and 3 for the XBOX and 2 dance pads... I cant get enough of tha crazy Japanese dance music!
If I am going to get flamed for liking DDR. then Fsck off!! It is good fun, and most people who dont like it, are just embarassed cuz they suck at it. so there.
Also, I want this Porno called "pirates" It has real sword fighting (with swords, nothing phallic, you sickos) and ship battles, and of course.. sex. It had a 1 million dollar budget (record breaking budget for a porno) and has sold over 100,000 copies so far. (most pornos sell around 5000)
And that is what I want for christmas this year

in Are Warez Right? Post #149785
GRR, downloading music and software is illegal.. when you buy a CD, it is a Single-User Liscense (unless otherwise noted). At no point do you ever "own" that software.
You are violating contract by copying music and giving it to your friends, thus you are stealing liscenses.
I agree that software is way too expensive, and I can admit to downloading warez on occasion, but to say that it isn't stealing is a lie.
I think using peer to peer music sharing programs is crazy. If you want to share with your friends, that is one thing,(I know I said it was illegal) but connecting with complete strangers to share music is just wrong.
Yes, I understand that there is a one in a million chance that you will be caught using pirated software, but that takes none of the severity away from it.
It is wrong.. don't do it :P
