The entity you need is a func_friction.

Its pretty good with the default settings but just play around with the settings until you get the effect you want.

Oh and its not solid so make sure you have a floor underneath it. :P

Scientist: Oh hello Dr. Breen. What can I do for you?

Phone: mumble

Scientist: Yes the experiment was a complete success!

Phone: quizzical mumble?

Scientist: Erm...no? There were definatly no big green explosions. Was there supposed to be???

Phone: Erratic loud mumbles

Scientist: turns away from phone to other scientists He doesn't sound very happy.

in Vis Stuck? Post #238878
Its most likely the opposite. The walls and stuff probably look crap because VIS isn't running properly.

The way I understand it is that VIS compile times can vary according to detail, map size and other such things. If this is the same with Source as it is with GoldSource then VIS is the longest part of the compile progress. The only suggestion I have is try to find a way to break it down. Use 3d skyboxes to render the out of reach spaces. Also (if this is for singleplayer) try breaking the canyon up into 2 or more levels.

I don't have much experience with Source however so I could be wrong.

How about this?

Rather than getting a few members together and making a room and whatever all this bollocks is about, lets go bigger. (Stay with me)

What getting every member of TWHL who might be interested, to pull out their box of tricks and expertise (i.e. modelling, coding, mapping, sound, whatever) and make an actual fully blown, story driven MOD?

Hmmm?

in Computer or Laptop? Post #238865
While being mobile does make them a rather tempting purchase I would never buy a laptop. My opinion, think about the future. Sooner or later you're going to want an upgrade and thats a hell of a lot easier to deal with when using a desktop PC.

Also, although they claim to be 'gaming laptops' these days, the hardware they use is rarely efficient and sometimes not even supported by newer titles.

I've gone off CoD games since they went all console shaped.

The original was (and still is) the best. 2 was the same with better graphics. 3 was a console only release (BAD MOVE!) and 4, well I've watched the vids and my only comment would have to be "meh."

I can honestly say I won't be touching this.

in Survey: Violence and videogames. Post #238377
Age: 21
Number of children: None
Country: Shropshire, UK.

1. First Person Shooters for about 30 hours a week.

Otherwise its modding work and web design.

2. I have been involved in 2 fights in my life. That is all. I see no need for physical violence in the real world. It costs far to much financially and personally.

3. I would say the system is good but it needs to be enforced on a much greater scale such as with tobacco and alcohol sales.

4. I would let my children play any game that is suitable for their age group. I would probably let them play certain games before others.

5. I was allowed to play any videogames I wanted from the age of 7. However i was more into racing and such back then. However if an FPS game had an adult filter it was often applied and password protected.

6. No. I think the media depicts violance to the necessary degree. It doesn't TELL ANYONE to go out and join in. Its all down to the parents not having control over their children.

That sounds like the system I first played HL2 on. It wasn't pretty.

Also, that spec probably wouldn't run the Ep1 or Ep2 expansions becuase they add more technology into the mix and not all of it can be turned off.

My last system ran HL2 on max without any trouble.

Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
NVidia 6600GT 128Mb
512MB RAM

Not sure how much that would cost nowadays.
