Going back to the HL2 comments - if anyone has downloaded/played the E3 leak (pretty pointless aside from the model viewer to see how cool it all looks) you can find a new version of Hammer they're using for HL2. When you start it up they even have an MC Hammer sound clip, it's so funny

Isnt there already someone making a Stargate mod? And I'm sure there are other Stargate maps out already too - do a search for them/that mod and see how they did the gate.

thats only becouse they dont leave us with much choice because they monopolize the market. if there was anything better out there then i would be using it.
Sorry but that has to be up there with the top 10 dumbest replies on a forum ever. Basically you say Microsoft software is average - yet you say there is nothing better. And whats funnier is you seem to think there are no other operating systems in the world aside from Windows and Linux!!

And by the way, there are plenty more Office packages too - nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to use Microsoft's version. Infact, you cant even get Microsoft Office with Windows anymore unless it's a watered down version of Word XP - you need to buy it seperately or, like you probably did, pirate it. You are the only person who's forcing yourself to use it - dont blame Microsoft for your lack of research into other software packages.

When did I say they were amazing? I said some of their products happen to be pretty damn good.

Well it does seem like most people that "hate" Microsoft are just following the crowd and dont really have any reason to hate the company.

Sure they do a bit of monopolizing here and there, but it's all business. If all these haters were in Microsoft's position, they'd all be hypocrites doing the same thing. It's all about money and getting your products out there - which happen to be some pretty damn good products.

bryce_boi - You dont support Microsoft, hm? In other words you're just another dim-witted gamer who follows the crowd and believes Microsoft is evil, yet you own a PC which probably has more Microsoft-made/owned software and hardware on it that you'd like to admit to.

I've got Xbox, Gamecube and PC - and I'm extremely happy. No craptastic graphics from PS2 (I never buy multiplatform ports unless they were made for a higher-spec system first. I'm sick of all the EA-esque made-for-ps2-not-upgraded-to-support-other-systems approach to mainstream gaming.) and all the games I could ever need.

There is only one game anyone could want a PS2 now for and that is San Andreas (which is coming to Xbox and PC mere months after anyway). Aside from all the hyper Sony fanboys who believe everything else sucks cause it's not Japanese, the rest of the gaming population see that there is more to life than repetitive, old-hat, random-battle filled turn-based Japanese RPGs.

Xbox has always been green. The controllers too. They were never made to be black - they're an extremely deep green.

It would need to be timed even more perfectly for that to work right, but you do have a point.

He's only using one sound file though, that has the whole conversation in.

I dont think it's possible - since when you trigger the first guy to start talking with that sound file, he'll say the whole thing. You need to make seperate sound files for each sentance and trigger each one using a multimanager, swapping between each guy with each sentance. It's a lot of work, and you have to time it all right aswell, but it's the only way really.

As I said. There is not really space for more than one mapper, which is mrxbob.
There is space for plenty of mappers, just not right now. Not everything is sorted out yet, we're still waiting on a coder and a modeller (Pepper is helping out but might not be able to do much of it for us, since he's got a lot of other projects on the go)

I'm noting all of these names down, so dont worry.

Yes, the player would get stuck toonton.

It can be done if you're crouched whilst going through a loading area, but that's it I think.

The things we want are probably really simple to any coders out there, so please come and hear the ideas!

Thanks

I basically just got an image from google with the blood, made it black and white, changed the layer in photoshop to "multiply" so it got rid of everything but the blood (with a little messing around in the "levels" settings) and made it red with the "hue/saturation" settings. If that sounds too hard, check this tutorial out - it's what I used.

And yes, I'm still looking for mappers! Actually what I really need is someone to make me a few models and animations for them... mappers will be needed later. Can you do models? Or maybe you have a talent of making textures? :D Anything you can do, tell me! That goes for other people who wanna help out, too!

It's a bit rough though - it's just a very early room that I made especially for the video, (mainly to test out some of the shock-flashback effects the mod is going to be based around.... oops said too much ;) ) it's using nothing but the original HL wad and I hate it lol... gonna start building the lobby of the Sanitarium tomorrow when I get back from work, got the whole thing planned out, but it's gonna be all pink HL logos untill I get my wad made :zonked:

Had fun making the logo for the website, though :D Coming soon! (The website, that is.... the mod isnt anywhere near getting off the ground yet :( Need people to help!)

I'm starting work on my first full HL mod - (please dont run away :P ) and I'm looking for someone to help, or... rather DO some modelling for me. Full credits will be given of course!

If anyone can help me with this, let me know asap!

For now, I only need a few things...

A guy in a straightjacket and a face mask (like Hannibal) - simple animations would be things like banging his head against a wall, sat huddled in a corner, and a slow walk. No attack.

Nurses/doctors in dead poses

Two main melee weapons (that can be talked about privately - I dont really wanna give away the idea of the mod yet)

Does anyone think they can do something like this? If so, post! :D Thanks

There's a different animation to use for that - he does the exact same animation (complete with the beeping noises) from the very first time you see Barney as you step off the train in HL. I just recently used it but I dont remember what the name of the animation was - sorry. You'll find it in the HL model viewer though.

Has anyone seen When The Wind Blows? It's kinda freaky..... it's this really old short film (animated, uses drawn characters and miniature sets blended together) and it's about this old man and woman who find out a nuclear war is about to begin (I dont think you get the details about how or why it's happening - I'm pretty sure it was made as a shock-factor film to show the effects of nuclear bombs and scare people..).

Anyway, the old man has this book he got from the library that shows how to build a safe place, which requires 2 doors slanted against a wall, painting all of the windows etc... and the woman doesnt believe it all, she just goes about her business, but then it happens - and boy does it happen. They use this really weird, dirty, mangled sketch/animation effect to show the effects of this bomb dropping - cars and lorrys going down the road just get lifted up and roll along fields, houses get torn apart, animals are slung into the air... it's all pretty violent and scary to say it's just an animation. Then at the end, it shows how the old man and woman are deteriorating slowly from the fallout, until they eventually fall asleep for one last time in the dark, and the man is left talking to himself. It's kinda sad, but it really frightens you at the same time.. really well made. SEE IT!

/strange review of animation :P

Yeah 28 Days Later was surprisingly good! A bit clich? at times, but still a spooky film. Just the thought of London being completely empty like that and some guy waking up in the middle of it not knowing what the hell has happened. THAT is fear.

Sixth Sense, too! Films like that and The Others - I think its just all the silence and then suddenly huge loud noises that you have no idea where they came from :D

We need more phsycological movies - no monsters, no aliens, no special effects, just films that make you think about what the hell could be happening behind that door.... never show your audience what's scary - because it just wont be scary. Imagination, directors! You're supposed to be renowned for it

^Ignore that post, made some errors.

I was thinking of looking at the trailer untill I got to the part of the flash intro movie where it said Sarah Michelle Gellar  :zonked:

Tacky, cheesy, clich?, badly acted and nowhere near scary are the phrases that came to mind, and I hadent even watched the trailer yet.

And after watching the trailer, I felt the same familiar feeling I've felt looking at every other "horror" movie in the past few years. Typical, old-hat, made-for-the-masses teen spook flick.
