Man, you guys are so young.

You know when you're old when you start sentences with "Back in the days..."

I remember feeling excited when DOS version 3 came out, and I became an expert at configuring AUTOEXEC.BAT AND CONFIG.SYS

I am 37.

In Far Cry 2, the player is forced to kill his buddies.

True, they're mercenaries, but still, they're someone's son and someone's brother.

It's this sort of game content that gives gaming a bad name.

Even the Half-Life series cleaned up.

In the original Half-Life, you are forced to kill US Marines. In Half-Life 2, you kill Combine soldiers (which are technically aliens) and zombies--much more acceptable.

There are only three types of enemies that are acceptable in modern games--zombies, aliens, and Nazis.

Thanks, but I finally figured it out.

Those fragmented files in red are my system restore points saved by Windows.

Once I deleted all the restore points and defragmented my drive, it's a whole lot better.

I just got Defraggler to clean out my hard drive. But even after three rounds of defragmentation sessions, my drive is still 49% fragmented.

Why can't it get the job done in one cycle? I just want it to completely defrag my drive, no matter how long it takes.

Microsoft releases its first security suite today.

This software has been on beta release since June, but the company is releasing it officially, three weeks before Windows 7 hits the stores.

I strongly suspect that it's a strategy to force people buy the MS OS and discourage piracy.

I am sure Bill Gates is desperate for more money.

Has anyone tried this security program?

in Netbook Post #272964
I actually bought mine from Amazon, which sells the Samsung netbook for $429, free shipping and no tax.

I know I am sacrificing power with portability, but that's the whole point of netbooks. Just like people knowingly pay more for laptops compared to desktops, the premium goes into the compactness and convenience.

The Samsung netbook weighs less than 3 lbs and the battery life is more than 9 hours. That alone beats out all the notebooks out there.

I won't really know whether I'll like the idea of a netbook until I get mine, so we'll see what happens. I have never owned a laptop or notebook before. I always used desktops because they're more powerful, more upgradable, and a lot cheaper.

Now I am trying the other end of the spectrum.

Has anyone else bought one? What do you think of this one from Samsung?

I got one so that I can bring it to work and do stuff on the computer during downtime when there's no patients. I don't expect it to play games, but maybe Half-Life will run on it.

I picked up this book mainly because the author (Cindy) is my good friend from high school, but it turned out to be a great read.

The style of writing reminds me of the Harry Potter series. So if you want to dive into a world where ancient Chinese spirits and gods reign, try this book.

I think it's comical that people get so upset about a map, and there is actually a discussion on the "freedom of speech" for a forum.

An online community is privately own and run. It can do whatever that it wants. It does not have government jurisdiction, and freedom of speech is moot in private quarters.

If a two-year-old starts saying bad words and his parents tell him to stop, does not count as infringement on freedom of speech?

It's just a forum. It's just a game. Real atrocities are committed world wide on a daily basis. Go worry about those.
