SCORE! The more I try to mess with Source lately, the more it repels my approaches... GLDSRC for the win!!
I'd love to contribute models! I love the story as well. I have subscribed to this thread.

Also I don't think your implementation of laser projectiles would be difficult... Pretty sure we can steal the crossbow code for that.

Have you checked for problems? (Alt-P)
Also what grid size are you working on? The bigger the better for map sealing brushes.

Double check that joke of your world sealing brushes aren't entities by accident.

Open a properties window and click each brush to check easily.

In having issues triggering my model.
It keeps flipping back and forth between idle animation and the first frame of the action animation.
EDIT

Fixed it.

I was making a garage door but cycling between all the animations proved to be a major pain in the rear.

1) I missed the { event 1000 0 } in the action animation, and i also removed the loop command from the QC.
Works like a charm.

Hey man. Few things.

1) Check your compile log, you're getting a few warnings - "Too many light styles on face"
2) You really only need one cubemap per room. That room with the vending machine had 3.
3) So after I removed the extra 2 cubemaps, I compiled and added water to check reflections.

Have you grabbed the proper fgd and loaded it into hammer?

I haven't mapped for TFC but I know based on the game there should be a few key entity types you should look for.
  • red team start
  • red team flag
  • red team capture point
  • blue team start
  • blue team flag
  • blue team capture point
  • ammo pickup
  • health pickup
Once you get the fgd loaded up you can peek through the list and see what's there.

Perfect.

I have to warn you though... The keyboard is slowly dying. I've actually worn out the W key due to all the FPS games I've played on it. So you'll need to use a mouse with it, and don't expect the battery to last any longer than 45-60 minutes.

Hey everybody! I know some of you out there don't have fantastic computer setups and I'm about to upgrade my Laptop (In fact, I already purchased the new one, it just hasn't arrived yet) So... I am giving away my old laptop for the wonderful price of FREE! (Plus shipping).
I have some long-term international travel coming up and this thing just doesn't travel well any more.

My current laptop:
Acer AS7741G-7017
17.3" Screen
2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
Mobility Radeon HD 5650
8GB RAM
128GB SSD
Windows 10
(1) HDMI Out Port
(3) USB 2.0 Ports
This has been upgraded from it's stock version of only 4GB ram and a 256GB HDD. The thing will boot up in under 14s. I believe the new SSD is a Kingston Hyper X. I also think the advertised clock speed is slow; I'm pretty sure It runs closer to 2.7Ghz, but don't quote me on that.

This thing runs any Source or Goldsource game I've thrown at it - including the development tools (Hammer, Blender, GIMP, etc..) It can run Starcraft II, World of Tanks and Planetside II. I've also used it successfully to develop some games using Unreal 4 and Unity 3. The computer is no slouch.. HOWEVER... It's showing physical signs of wear.

Things wrong with it:
Right Hinge Cover damaged by impact
"W" key is only semi-responsive
Right-Click on touchpad does not work.
Screen does not dim due to lack of drivers, and it has a slight horizontal line running across it where it folds down into the keyboard.
The battery life is abyssmal
CD drive is loud and clicks (Though it's done this from day 1 and i haven't noticed anything actually wrong with it)
So all that being said, this laptop was purchased in 2011 and has served me well since then. It's traveled with me, Worked with me and helped me do a lot of great things. (It served me well through college and I used it to write my book) It would be a shame to throw it away so I would love if one of you TWHLites would love to give it some more life.

It's best used as a desktop computer due to the failing keyboard and poor battery life.

So... Does your computer suck? How bad does it suck? Can you pay shipping? I'm assuming international shipping might be expensive, also I don't know the rules with using a USA version of Windows 10 in another country...

But.. Speak up if you're interested.

@RIM and Ninja Those looks awesome!

I think the only drawback would be the inability to push updates to the individual tiles.

If you created a wall, and then updated it, you'd need to find all the walls that were placed already and replace them.

Modern editors have that power. Like Unreal4's Blueprints

SSB, I've had great success with Paint.Net. It's a simple layout; the tools and layers are easy to use and figure out. There's plugins for more features.

Get an account with www.textures.com and use the base textures there for your beginnings.

GIMP has a useful tool for fixing perspective shift from photographs. I haven't gotten comfortable with the editing in GIMP yet but i usually only use it to straighten and align photographs to be used for textures.

in HL2 mod Post #338622
It'll be hard to complete anything if you get stuck and change topic.
Raytracers are difficult as well - you basically have to code your entire engine from scratch unless you have some base code to go off of.
Which... That's kinda what making your own Half-Life 2 mod entails. You get the base code that runs the game, but you need to code in any additional monsters and effects you want that aren't already included in the base code.

Downloading the code and getting the base code compiled is a pain the butt. It probable won't compile as-is and you'll have to trace down and fix errors and bugs, but that's Step 1.

Have you considered creating a Game Design Document for any of your projects? They're very helpful in organizing your ideas and outlining the scope of the project. It doesn't matter if it's a Map, a Mod, or an entire game, the document will help you focus your ideas and let you decide on what to work on next.

There's a good chance that if you don't have the desire and drive to actually flesh out a GDD, you don't have the desire and drive to actually complete the project.

Here's an example of a GDD that I have used on multiple maps:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ct5-qyUZC9cAKn-iLUgtOczDkERmPzNNwPLDfT9Hgjs/preview

Fill out whatever section you can, and leave the rest blank. It's a great tool for brainstorming - you can let your mind run wild with ideas and organize them later. I usually take it a step further and create a folder in my Google drive that contains reference images and other notes in addition to the GDD.

Good luck
