in Hammer 4 won't work. Post #250023
Alright. I haven't mapped for a really long time. Then I got some source games. And Source SDK.

The problem is, I can't start Hammer. Everytime I try to open it, it says 'No game configurations to run with', and I don't see anywhere to fix that. The engine version is 'The Orange Box', and it doesn't let me pick a game from the pulldown list.

Can someone help me fix this? I'd appreciate it.

EDIT: A more clear explanation, there isn't anything in the pulldown menu for 'Current Game'. I can't even pull it down, it's a solid box. I have Half-Life 2 and Garry's Mod, but they aren't listed.

in how to move from HL maps to HL2 maps Post #244283
The current Goldsource hammer is 3.5, but that's the beta and some people find 3.4 better.

I read somewhere else that Hammer 4.0 is used in HL2 mapping, but that was a long time ago and it's probably false.

I can't really comment on it so far, Wildcat- I'll need to see more information or maybe a screenshot or two when production begins.

Wait, hold up, I can explain that.

The light has a target because it used to target the ceiling. I forgot why I removed it.

And no, I textured the room after hollowing it and clipped the sides. I just say it's a clone because they're exactly the same.

I'll try deleting it and I'll copy the other wall.

That's what I get for not keeping backups.

No, no.

All Goldsource mods to my knowledge use .bsp files. .cfg are configuration files.

And I have Sven-Coop and I make maps for it. You need .bsp files.

Thanks in advance.

The name of the scripted_sequence, and the time in value.

I'm just going to use an example of what I think you are using, WITH MY OWN NAMES!:

barn_opendoor 0
lab_door 4
barn_walkaway 5

So with it set up like that, when the multimanager is triggered, barney will open the door and walk off.

Sorry if you can't read it that well. I haven't got much sleep lately.

If you're using a multimanager, which you should be, just add the new scripted_sequence at a later time, preferably AFTER the door opens.

What you're calling "viruses" are actually tracking cookies, which are harmless. They may show up in a virus scan, but they're just deleted every time you clean out your browser's cache.
Viruses and cookies are different things. I use 'Ask every time' for cookies on Firefox and deny the majority of everything. Cookies? No. Viruses? Sometimes.

False! I don't have any antivirus software or viruses.
As long as you don't run random exes you get from porn sites and other such stupid stuff you'll be fine.
Viruses are downloaded in VERY small quantities through page views or cookies. And they save you the ease of clicking on them by activating themself. :D

All if not most viruses are self-replication programs, while running it adds to it's own data, therefore corrupting files with a string of code.

Or you can go, 'HUR DE HUR LET'S CLICK ON MYDOOM.EXE'. :crowbar:

Hmm, it might be because I'm using it on WON. I deleted the old version and replaced with the new update again, but I'm still getting errors.

Srry and I could act as representatives of Steam play and WON play.

I am running 1.1.1.0, though, so it couldn't be an .exe update problem. All said, I'm basically running the latest Half-Life, though I did read in the Readme that it should work with Half-Life 1.1.1.0.

EDIT: I'd have to say the latest release is incompatible with the WON version of Half-Life.

First off, I can't quote right. So here goes. >_>

1. The monster was a monster_zombie- I had walked up to it on accident and couldn't move away until I killed it.

2. My bad, it wasn't an ammo box. It was the 80x48x48 foot locker prefab in the Crates list.

3. Oops, it was a test map, though... :tired:

Forgot to mention some bugs you probably already know about:
  • Sometimes the player has trouble turning when there is a monster right in front of him.
  • I kept getting stuck on an ammo box I could jump over in a test map.
  • Headcrabs in my test map seemed to be limited to a certain square radius and couldn't jump out fully.
  • Grunts don't follow 2D, but you probably don't have them implemented yet.
  • The shotgun in 2D form rocks.

in Vault symbol for HL2D? Post #242773
I was thinking, since Chickenfist made a great mod recently, that so maps could be found easily in the Map Vault, to change the ? for HL2D maps to some sort of 2D with a background color instead, for example, how Half-Life maps use the HL symbol with orange background, so maybe 2D with a white background.

If you haven't seen HL2D yet, it's in the 'Maps and Mods' section of the forums in 'Flat-Life HL2D'.

That's just my idea.

I just downloaded this mod yesterday and I've got to say, it's one of the most fun I've played or mapped in for a while.

(I made a test map to test some of the features. >_>)

I've also got tons of .MOD files laying around my computer sleeping from other games I used to work with, I'd say around 20-50 different .MOD files.

If you want any, I'll need a site to upload some to so you could hear them.

I was working on a new DM map for the orignal Half-Life, and I had just finished a great looking, extremely detailed country house using textures from Firearms and HL. BUT! After I finished the house and the yard, including the driveway, it just went downhill from there. The hill because looking square and giant hedges surrounding the arena made no sense. My river was practically a huge square flooding an unclimbable riverbank. The bridge looked like square with rails on it, the town... I'm not even getting into the town.

Anyone have ideas on how to improve this? I've tried Gensurf and 'Nem's Mega 3D Landscaper' or whatever it's called, but it always ends up way too big or not what I'm looking for. 8 triangles do not make 10480x10480 squares in my mind, but it seems to here.

But still, ideas? Motivation? Thanks.

A problem with my scripted_sentences, this time. I obviously don't do a lot of single-player mapping.

I'm trying to get a barney and scientist to talk to each other once the barney sees the player. That part works fine, but parts of speech triggered by the multi_manager are late or often not even playing. All sentences are set up correctly. What is delaying them? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Ironically, I didn't check the tutorials first... This can be deleted.

I haven't mapped for about 6 months, so even though I boast superb mapping skills... it's collapsed far from what I used to be. I apologize for bragging.

My problem is this: in one of my single-player maps, when compiled and played straight from the editor, the G-man works fine and performs his actions. When played through Half-Life itself, the G-man seems to ignore his scripts and just stands there. None of my NPCs are doing their scripted_sequences ingame, only when compiled. What's causing this? A solution would really help me.
