So if any of the former participants is against his part being uploaded, yell in here!
Otherwise I'll upload it to the MV soon.

2: You're having an invalid solid structure. In other words: you f**ked a brush. But those should usually cause an in the problems report ([alt]+[p]).

in revive old textures? Post #171309
Erm, ... google is the spyware for the entire world's population.[/brain]

Using such old textures really ain't a good idea. Their resolution is about four times smaller than HL-textures.
And honestly, I even find HL?'s textures too low-res already. :o

In hl1 textures that start with '-0', '-1', '-2' etc. will tile randomly.
Just create a copy of the texture and get rid of the prefix.

in convert TGA to VMT Post #169759
Get VTFEdit first.
It will assist you in creating both .vmt and .vtf files.
For a start, just import a .tga and save it as a .vtf.
Then use the auto-create-vmt feature and choose your .vtf as the base texture. (I hope that's the correct order - I never did it that way.)
Done. :)

in model issue Post #169640
The size of the model doesn't matter, if you still use the monster_gargantua entity. The size of the boundary box is defined by the entity itself.
However, VHE with model-rendering-support won't display the actual boundingbox anymore, so you'll have to either check the .fgd or find an old .fgd and replace the current one with it. Then if you got the real size, just put the latest .fgd back into the folder.
If the original sized gargantua will fit into your room, the resized one should ,too.

If that does not, you should upload the map to the propblems vault.

I cannot really recommend just a few songs, instead I strongly advise you to get the soundtracks of all big Tarantino movies. If you don't like that music, you shall be struck by the 'OMG I love chart-music'-curse. XD
To name them:
Reservior Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill vol. 1
Kill Bill vol. 2
He has participated in a few others, but I cannot recommend those soundstracks, simply because I never listened to them. :P

The attachment doesn't look like it would hold the googles fast to the head.
You should add another strip, that runs around the back of the head or the chin.
Also in the image below, you can see that the body of the goggles almost perfectly covers the eyes, to let no unwanted light reach the eyes.

As for the polygon limits: You have wasted many polygons already. Especially for the grooves and holes near the end of the large horizontal cylinder. Those can easily be immitated with the skin/normalmap.
Instead you should spend some more polies for the lenses, as they are larger and attract more attention.

I usually don't adjudicate on unskinned models, as the skin can really make or break a model.
So skin it! :D

Well, my $0.02.

in Bumpmaps are blocky Post #168627
I am creating textures for HL?, too and I know this problem very well.

HL? usually compresses textures with the DXTn method.
Basics of DXTn: it splits the texture into 4*4 pixel blocks, then stores two reference colors for each block (2*16bit) so that each pixel of a block can mix its color from those two (16*2bit), that way you'll have 64bits for each block, which is quite a good ratio.
For normalmaps though, this compression method is rather useless and often causes entire blocks to have the same color, which makes them appear blocky.

Solution: do not compress normalmaps, or make them larger. Both will increase the filesize, the latter however might also make the texture cause longer rendering times.
For each normalmap, you'll have to decide, which is more important: size or beauty. In general, very smooth normalmaps should not be compresses, while noisy normalmaps hardly suffer from DXTn compression.

For HL? texture conversion and viewing, I strongly advise using VTFEdit.
It is the most advanced application for creating HL? textures and lets you easily control all propertires of a .vtf.

in random ambient_generic Post #166954
The only HL-entity with a random function is the env_beam.
If there are two or more entities with the endingtarget name (I didn't try this with the startingtarget, yet.), the beam will randomly select one of them at each strike.
To trigger random events, you let the beam do some damage and cover the endingpoints with hurt-able buttons.

How to do what you want to achieve:
  • create and env_beam and an info_target for the startingpoint.
  • set the 'life' time to some low value, like '0.1' and set the 'damage' value to '100' or so.
  • do NOT activate the 'toggle' flag and activate the 'random strike' flag.
  • set up several func_buttons, make them trigger immediately and not move at all - set their health value to '1'.
  • name all buttons the same and also put that name into the 'ending entity' field of the beam (every button must have an origin brush at its center, otherwise the beam will aim at [0|0|0])
Now you have a number of buttons that each trigger a different event.
If you just want varying delays between the sound playing, let each button trigger an individual trigger_relay . Let each relay have a different delay time (between 60 and 120 for 1-2 minutes) and let each of them trigger the same multi_manager.
Let the multi_manager trigger the sound and the laser, without a delay, to create an infinite loop.

Start the whole thing with any trigger you like.

Done!

Of course this would be much cooler, if you used different variations of the sounds, to not only have varying delays, but also varying noises.

Agreed.

ZL certainly is not sick-minded (No really. Are you, ZL?) - infact I believe that he is a potentially very intelligent person (Thinking of those heated debates on IRC), but he often uses the wrong methods to convince people.
Waving with bukkake pictures at prudish american, while stating that masturbating is normal, won't get you anywhere. Infact this is very counter-productive, as this thread proved.

Well, this thread in fact got raped. If you guys wanna keep discussing this, open a new thread.

"So, you are obviously the big dick. The men on the side of ya are your balls. There are two types of balls. There are big brave balls, and there are little mincey faggot balls."

"These are your last words, so make them a prayer."

"Now, dicks have drive and clarity of vision, but they are not clever. They smell pussy and they want a piece of the action. And you thought you smelled some good old pussy, and have brought your two small mincey faggot balls along for a good old time. But you've got your parties mangled up. There's no pussy here, just a dose that'll make you wish you were born a woman. Like a prick, you are having second thoughts. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with ya. The fact that you've got "Replica" written down the side of your gun. (withdraws his gun) And the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O" written on the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now... Fuck off!"

Well, much easier this time. :)

Games that I play or played not too long ago:

Systemshock 2 - You don't need hipoly and hires to make the play wet his pants from fear. :D
Conolization - Presumably the predecessor to the very popular Civilation series. Much better though :)
The Elder Scrolls: Arena - I really tried to play it, but after several hour I gave up because the controls sucked so much.

Games that I'd love to play, but can't:

Systemshock (1) - It requires DOS and has troubles with many emulators. All I read about it made me wanna play it even more.
Fallout (1) - I played Fallout 2 and really loved it. I have no idea where to get part one from.
No one lives forever (1) - I know, it's not old - but I cannot play it, simply because it seems to have disappeared from this planet.

in Virus making, why? Post #161380
That's not quite right.

Linux for example simply doesn't have such an insecure rights-system like windows.
Also all recent M$ file types can execute stuff on your system. Where's the use for the user? There is none. It's just supposed to enable M$ to spy or modify your system. And it enables viruses to invade your system through normal media.

Here we are back at the topic. Most people make 'malware' to indicate security leaks + the people that create this stuff almost never release it. Script kiddies do.

in Virus making, why? Post #161367
Well, if it's not possible, why are there so many almost bugless and virusless OSs out there?

Microsoft doesn't give a fuck about the quality of their products anymore, simply because they don't have to. Windoze is simply spread so far that everybody is forced to use it, no matter how bugged it is.

And seriously, you're paying them, to get a piece of software that makes operating your PC easier. What you get does exactly the opposite.

Rule #1: Minimum system requirements for games are always wrong.
Rule #2: Your HDD much slower than your RAM (some 3-digit-number) so using the page file slows your system down ALOT.
