I find the currect CAD comic along with the other Thompson mockeries (spelling?) on CAD and for example VGCats rather pathetic.

They're too "OMG Thompson is a fag lol!"-ish.

Ten-thousand dollars is a lot of money, and would really benefit some charities. But why would a video game company spend the millions of dollars it takes to design, develop, produce and market a video game, when they could just donate the ten grand themselves and be done with it? Why don't you offer something that would actually motivate these companies, such as offering to throw yourself off a cliff.
Yay.

Heard of him before. Personally, I think violent games have influence, just as music, tv and all other media have. But banning violent games isn't going to solve those problems - it's humans themselves that choose to kill, and choose to be influenced by these games, music and other media. The problem goes much deeper than just games or no games.

As for his proposal... he had better done with a proposal for a non-violent game, rather than confirming that 'violence is fun'. I agree with him to some extend, but definitely not with the way he brings things.

Videogames have existed for more than 40 years, and violence has existed since the dawn of humanity.
Any theories that consider games the cause of irrational behaviour are wrong. There's also some confusion regarding the nature of videogames. There are violent games out there, sure. But a lot of others are not. Just like what happens with movies, songs, comics etc.
From what I know, violent games always have some sort of +18 or M rating. If kids can buy and play those games, it's not the game company's fault.

Madcow: Jack Thompson is an attorney who has pretty much made it his life quest to prove that video games are evil.
Now he offers $10.000 to the one who makes that video game, named "A modest proposal".

Jonathan Swift was, as Mephs proclaimed, was some guy who wrote 'A modest proposal' which was a proposal for the rich English to eat the poor Irish.

I also think video/PC games is a bit evil.. :P
But, I enjoy them my self, but some people can't handle them and turns out to persons like that 14 years old killer.
But, I hope every one here on TWHL is smart enough, never to do that?

Elon yariv: Maybe cause the educational system in your petty country is shit and we learn useful stuff, not kids stories.

Video games affect people, obviosuly. But it does not make them rampant murderers. Mentally unstable people might become quite blood lusty by playing them, but not sane people. Also, age limits on video games are shite.
I don't believe a seven year old takes more damage from playing red alert than a twenty five year old.

It's up to the parents of said child to determine if the video game should be played by him/her.

False, jounger kids are still learning, and they take in the info they see.
Some of them would think "Is this how it really is?"
And there it goes, they run around mad on the street!
Or, they just act strange cuz they have played that game.
Jounger kids could also get scared for life.
BUT, a NORMAL 25 year old person wouldn't.
He would know that, it's just a game.

That's why they put age limits.
Some of the limits is to high, some to low, but, the person/his parants should know if he is mature enough to play it.

lefty, thats an example of using a talent for the wrong means. what you are saying is that these people used video games to help improve their flying skills. the objective of a flight sim is not to crash into building, it is the opposite.. lol, not everyone who uses a flight sim is going to crash into a building. otherwise the entire airforce would have destroyed the US by now.

Lies! I can make coffee! And babymaking, I know how to do that. And...yeah.

I made a reply to that joystiq article. JT is quite the hypocrite. His "I'll donate to charity if you make this game" is a stupid way to frame developers. Noone'll make it, so he won't give the money away, then he can go "omg! bad people dont want money to go to charity! let's ban videogames!" =/

wow, that was a waste of space. Its like asking santa's address. Your not going to stop video gaming, simple.

I don't really have much opinion on this topic. And how is the meager gesture of $10,000 going to temp companys when 1)Way more money is donated than that as it is 2)why spend millions and millions on development when they can just donate the 10 grand themselves and 3)no company is going to take that offer because no one will buy it.
