hammer acts so weird on my dads computer! first i had to reinstall it because it crashed on compile and absolutely no one could figure it out and now whenever i make a map with any texture and i try to run it in CS i get "warning couldn't open V.wad" which i dont even have! and im sure doesnt even exist!!
wtf :furious: :furious: :furious:

if its looking for the .wad, it means it was compiled with the map. Open up hammer's option, go into textures and remove it from the list

30 wads!??

NEVER use more than 8.
Posted 18 years ago2006-09-29 19:41:44 UTC Post #197976
im not using 30 wads, i just have them loaded under the "textures" tab, my map which is a simple box, its using only 1 was because im only using 1 texture
Posted 18 years ago2006-09-29 20:02:11 UTC Post #197979
It doesnt matter how many are in the actual map, they all get put in. You could remove them, or some batch compilers have options to strip out un-used wads when they compile. (Is there an 'Expert' command for that in a Hammer compile?)

I had this problem too....unfortunatly, I dont remember the solution... :(
Posted 18 years ago2006-09-29 21:30:42 UTC Post #197985
well i removed all but 3 wads and the problem persists
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-01 08:11:12 UTC Post #198163
Try reinstalling both the game and hammer, it will solve the problem. If the problem still persists, please email me at christianpaul1105@yahoo.com. :)

Remove all the temp files from your maps directory except your .rmf.
Openup that rmf in Hammer, save it, and export to Map. Now recompile.

Be sure to run vis and rad though.

Temp files are files created during compile duch as:

.max
.rmx
.p0
.p1
.p2
.03
.pts
.prt
.wic
.log

Just remove all of them except your rmf.

Never use cached.wad and gfx.wad.
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-02 17:40:20 UTC Post #198318
which map directory? the one under valvehammereditor/maps or counterstrike/cstrike/maps ?
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-03 03:44:03 UTC Post #198339
The directory where you save your rmf files.

(default is C:ValveValve Hammer EditorMaps or something like that.)

goddammit!! its still doing it but now its saying it cant find "f.wad" GRR!! :badass:
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-03 19:41:49 UTC Post #198421
for some reason i can only play the map when i use the -nowadtextures command while compiling, which is stupid because my bsp is bloated! with textures everyone already has!!! i seriously think i'm gonna cry, iv been working on this map for awhile and i cant even play it
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-03 22:33:03 UTC Post #198437
Try this. use qlumpy and compile a black 16x16 texture. rename mywad.WAD to f.wad or v.wad. Man I have all type of compile errors, but this is very strange... something is puting f.wad or v.wad...Could be Zhlt...Try compiling with old Q tools.

that's what i get with the normal hl compile tools

i think the reason im getting this error is because hammers saving all those weird temporary files (.max .prt) to the place where i tell it to save compiled maps before running the game
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-04 17:21:44 UTC Post #198524
You should NEVER use the Q tools. Use ZHLT 3.4.

This is so weird, i think you just overlooked something.

Check the following:
  • No unwanted wad files in Hammer's texture list.
  • Before compile, delete all the temp files.
  • Save your rmf and export to Map to a different directory.
  • Search your whole computer for v/f.wad.
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-04 17:41:01 UTC Post #198533
what do you consider unwanted wad files?
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-04 17:41:55 UTC Post #198534
Wads you don't need. Like f.wad...
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-04 17:43:25 UTC Post #198535
f.wad isnt real or anywher on my computer...
Posted 18 years ago2006-10-04 20:26:43 UTC Post #198551
Man... I think the directory lines are too larges... I should install older Half-Life at C:/Sierra/Half-Life... But I really recommend you to install a Steam version of Half-Life. And to compile try using an batch compiler.
