That's nothing.
If you want to travel through the space you need a greater speed than light, which is impossible.

Nearest star from earth is at 40 bilions km, 4,22 light years.

striker... 50km/h is slow... even for a car.

And Skals, what the hell does Texas have to do with Half-Life? Black Mesa was in New Mexico... and Black Mesa was a research facility, not a giant hadron collider...

Lol he wrote 50.000 km/h = 50000 km/h

Anyway, it's still slow.

50000 km/h is fast? Compared to what will be going round in the LHC, thats virtually nothing.

I'm quite interested in seeing what discoveries are made. What is mass? Do other dimensions indeed in exist? (And dem pesky combine :O) Theres a whole array of questions which the LHC's four sensors should hopefully answer. Not to mention the technologies that could come as a result of the LHC. If things go well, we could have plenty of answers (and probably more questions) for us.

Oh, and about the black holes. I pulled this off the BBC's Q&A page they did with one of the scientists at LHC
Q: Black holes and matter

If you are able to generate even small black holes, will they suck up matter? Do full-sized black holes draw in invisible matter also? You have an exciting project and I wish you a lot of luck in the operation of your new hardware. (Merlin)

A: It's just possible that we could create mini-black holes, although this would require at least that there are extra dimensions in our Universe, for which we have no evidence!

If, however, we did, then the little black holes would bear no relation at all to the black holes created when stars collapse. They would evaporate away very quickly via a process called Hawking radiation (unless we have no understanding at all of quantum theory).

Even if they don't, they would be so very tiny that matter would never get close enough to them to be sucked in! Big black holes do suck matter in, and should also emit Hawking radiation, although they emit it much more slowly and so live for a very long time (much more than the current age of the Universe). Don't some countries / languages use periods as commas?
French Language
French and English have the same punctuation marks, but some of their uses are significantly different.
The major difference in using the period is when writing numbers. Either a period or a space will be used to separate the thousands. 22,222,222 (English) = 22.222.222 or 22 222 222 (French). Also, in French, the period is not used after abbreviations or measurement: 22 m (meters); 22 min (minutes).
Damn you, assbackwards French.

Acording to wikipedia, comas are used on all non-english speaking countries :\
Main article: Decimal separator
In many European languages, commas are used as decimal separators. The only English-speaking country which uses this convention is South Africa. Thus, 1,5 V means one and one-half volts.

Another method of writing numbers is the international system writing style.[9] They write the number fifteen million as 15 000 000. The only punctuation mark is the decimal mark; a period in English text, a comma in all other European languages. Using this convention, twelve thousand fifty-one dollars, seven cents, and 5 mills, would be written in symbols as $12 051.075 in English text, but $12 051,075 in text of any other European language.

In many places, English writers often put commas between each group of three digits. They would write the number fifteen million as 15,000,000. A number with a decimal does not use commas in the fractional portion. Thus, twelve thousand fifty-one dollars, seven cents, 5 mills is written in symbols as $12,051.075.

Many European languages use the exact opposite convention, and the above quantities are written as 15.000.000 and $12.051,075.[10]

Since when does "many European languages" mean "all languages besides English"?

Just thought I'd point that out. Otherwise I want nothing to do with this joke of a thread.

You know why I said greater than 50 000 km/h ? Because that's possible .
How can you even say "greater than speed of light" ? I suppose you know that's sort of impossible .

And because we are human beings The Hunter , we all know when we are talking about space and rocket speeds that when I wrote 50.000 km/h I wasn't referring to 50 km/h .... If I did , the ".000" were pointless.
I don't know much, but i know you're talking out your arse.

50k = 50000
50,000 = 50000
50.000 = 50
This and Spike's and Luke's comments only demonstrates you like trolling and you can derail with ease from the subject .

sadly, even the speed of light is quite slow (relative to galaxies and whatnot), but don't give up saying that it's impossible to reach for anything that has mass (since it would contradict e=mc^2), light has mass (apparently) too you know?

also, interestingly according to einstein's theories, the faster you go, the slower time goes (only for the traveling object) and reaching lightspeed actually would stop time.

anyway, I heard they were going to try some alchemy related experiments next year, something to do with isotopes and lead, making a product that turns anything it touches to lead, everything right now is a pretty unreliable source though.

You know, as amazing as the LHC sounds, we all know the real hard core stuff is at Area 51. If faster than light travel is really possible, it's here where it's being tested at. Of course, as far as the government is concerned, Area 51 does not exist.

All this spacetalk is just theories anyway. It's not like they've actualy done some tests on a black hole, thrown stuff in it to see what happens. As far as I know, a black hole is the anus of a black person.

LHC is expensive FAIL. They're just doing it to see what happens and maybe disprove a few theories.
And what happens if we've been wrong all this time? Nothing! Everything will stay the same, even if we don't know everything about it.

The Texas Hardon Collider failed because America can't do anything in a proper manor. Area 51 is fiction. Striker still puts a space before the dot and Potatis picture pwnd.

Well, Tosse....I guess this satellite photo of Area 51 showing what amounts to, the world's longest runway must be a fake then. Man, it's incredible how something this big that can be seen from orbit, somehow does not exists.
