It depends on how well it's gutted... Can be a matter of hours

No, he's saying 14 hours isn't close.

Am I allowed to guess Archie? :P

Urby has inspired me to start creating new textures. So I used my real-life whiteboard to make a silly in-game whiteboard.

Oh, and those walls were made by me, too.

I DON WANNAH! Wait what? Nvm.
This is good that you made some textures Dimbark. I like how you can see the camera flash on the white board when you took a picture of it xD, the blueish bit in the middle.

That wasn't the camera flash, my camera doesn't use flash. I used my HD video camera which had a regular camera mode. But it actually makes it more realistic since it blends in with just about any color of light.

The light was coming from my window that my curtains effortlessly tried to keep from the shot.

Sorry for the double-post, was supposed to click EDIT. D:

Nothing close with the VIS RAD puzzle so far. Keep in mind that all textures are .5 and this affects shadow definition.

Heh, nobody really came close.

Correct answer was:

Vis: 9 secs
Rad: 54 mins

Yes, truly if you want defined shadows and bounce lighting over huge expanses, you need to be prepared for Rad to take a shit all over you.

Interesting. Rad is very inefficient...

I usually have VIS >9000
RAD 5 minutes.

I must be doing something wrong...

I saw somewhere a chart that displays how long it takes for each processor to compile a map. Quad core was about 2x faster than Duo core, and for me I can compile a large map with maximum settings in about 1 hour max on my Duo core, so if you have a good processor it can be really fast.

I'd be really grateful if you'd find that chart again. I would use that chart as another reference in my research for buying a new computer.

My vis and rad usually are ok. vis is usually high but processes steadily, rad on the other hand, is longer and moves in leaps and bounds.

Normally i have lesser bounces to keep control of my lights and shadows.

Okay so i did some of my own testing with what i had available to test with.
All tests were performed on the latest vhlt build on dm_quakearena (again what i had available) with these settings:
HLBSP -subdivide 256
HLVIS -full
HLRAD -extra -bounce 16

Note that hlbsp uses all available threads inspite being told not to :(

And immediately we see that having an 4 core 8 thread processor doesn't give you much advantage over only 4 threads.

So much waffle, not enough WIP shots. These are VERY WIP. Working on a classic style (original textures, no model props, etc) map for HLDM at work because The Core SVN doesn't work there any more.
