Why would you not want to update? Just update!

I'm more interested in having mods.

In case anyone happened to be interested in modded gameplay, I'd personally suggest the following not-terribly-intrusive mods:
- Project Red: A successor to Red Power (discontinued since 1.4.7). Greatly simplifies redstone circuits adding single-block logic gates, redstone cables that can run on walls, ceilings, etc. (and can be separated by colour) and various coloured lighting fixtures.
- Computercraft: Adds programmable computers that can interface with redstone signals (i.e use redstone as input or output, including cables from the mod above) and can be programmed using Lua (an easy to learn language).
- Railcraft: Fantastic mod for multiplayer, although more complex than the above. Expands on the concept of minecarts and adds things like proper switchable junctions and linking between carts to create trains. Includes locomotives (forget that silly useless furnace minecart that makes no sense) to pull said trains and various new carts (liquid tank cart, workbench cart, track relayer, tunnel bore). New types of tracks (cheap wooden, reinforced, high-speed, etc.) and special utility tracks (directional, gated, station, etc.), automatic cart loaders/unloaders. There's also signalling which is fantastic for organising all the above in games with more than 1 player.

Not all of these have been released for the latest version of Minecraft, however.

The server was updated to the latest version.

Computercraft seems really cool, unfortunately it's only available for 1.8.9 yet. It also says it require Minecraft Forge, but is that a server-side thing?

Minecraft Forge is both a client/server side "modding framework". One problem is that everyone would be "forced" to use a modded Minecraft with mods.
Posted 8 years ago2016-04-02 03:42:23 UTC Post #329622
That. You'd have to use the Forge server instead of Bukkit or Spigot or whatever you're using right now (for server-side mod support) and the Forge-modded client for the client side of things.

That also means that clients can only connect to a server if they have the same mods, and therefore vanilla clients are incompatible. At least since 1.8 this process has been streamlined and is not as fidgety as it was before.

If people like the idea and are willing to try it, I can write up how to get it right with little hassle.

I'm gonna do a quick test on my PC about Forge. Something worth a note : at the time I am writing this, Forge is available for 1.9 and not 1.9.2 yet.

UPDATE : I installed a Forge server on my PC with the Minecraft Flight Simulator mod (because it's the first 1.9 compatible mod I've found). The first time I attempted to connect, the server rejected me because I didn't had Forge installed on my client, so I installed it. I was rejected a second time because I didn't installed the mod and I managed to connect the server when I installed the mod on my client.

Why not go all out and choose a modpack to play?
Posted 8 years ago2016-04-03 07:17:10 UTC Post #329629
Ha! That's a funny mod, I had never seen it.

I didn't say modpack because I generally don't like them much. The problem is they have too many mods and I very often find myself overwhelmed by the number of changes and sometimes the process to craft something is so complicated I don't even know where to start (or even what to use as a crafting table, if the mods add their own means of crafting). Besides that, I have an oldish computer and mod packs with too many mods kill my fps fast (as happened the last time someone suggested playing with a mod pack).

Those are the reasons I prefer modest setups :P

I'll try to be there for saturday.

For those who aren't aware yet, I'm building a slime farm (for sticky pistons), I'm at the first phase which is finding a slime chunk. I've already dig a 3x3 chunks space but I had no luck, so I am extending it to 5x5 chunks and in the worst case scenario, I'll have to extend it to 10x10 chunks. Any help is appreciated because digging takes a lot of time.

I think it was your first stronghold (the one with the "villager prison").

There are multiple "obsidian towers" of different height with a block on top of them, we need to destroy them with bows and arrows otherwise the dragon will regenerate his health over time.

Once we destroyed enough blocks (or all of them), then we have 2 choices :

1) Standard way : keep spamming arrows until he dies.

2) Fun/fast way : use the fact that beds explode in The End to create "a timed TNT" but this will require us to have armor, potions against explosions or health regeneration to prevent death (Enderman won't attack us if they got hurt by beds).
Posted 8 years ago2016-04-06 16:33:11 UTC Post #329694
hmm
ok then we should probably make an XP farm and spam enchanted books until we get enough blast protection ones.

I never tried that way! We need a place to store the Egg afterwards.

There's a slime chunk in Stronghold #2, in one of the caverns across the ravine but at this point I'm not sure how to get there.

I finish my whole mess for the slime chunk first, if I have no luck. I move to the stronghold.

I'm still in love with these shaders. Found a nice little beach area so scenic i made a new desktop background:

I have to pay the hosting provider by 15th of April. Donations reaching maximum 5$( 5$ is the cost of the hosting) are welcome in bitcoins and litecoins. Please revisit the first post of this thread, I'd be grateful.

I believe it's north somewhere from my house. About a day's travel by horseback.

That time of the month again! I'm feeling like Jimmy Wales :crowbar: . It seems like people don't quite visit the server anymore. Nevertheless, I'm not making assumptions and posting this instead.

That's a shame. I'd like to spend more time on your server, but I already play on one with friends.

Maybe it's time to say goodbye to vanilla and play some modded Minecraft, just for the sake of new things to discover and play with?
Posted 8 years ago2016-05-13 20:42:12 UTC Post #330118
It's been indeed a while since I haven't played Minecraft but it was quite hard with the exams. I'll try to be there this weekend if anyone is interested.

I too haven't had much time for gaming lately. Also I got KSP as a gift on Steam so what little time I had I spent playing that.

Maybe Atom is right and you could try a modded game, but like I said in another post above, heavily modded packs are too much for my computer to handle, so if you guys pick one of those you won't see me around.

I was finally able to get on and prepare to start the other day (my new comp has, I'm convinced, literally been screwing with me). Hopefully I'll get back on in a day or two and find a nice, unclaimed mountain area.

I made my house then, once again, immediately and completely ran out of things I ever really want to do in vanilla Minecraft. I doubt I'll be back in.

If I didn't gather from the last time that no-one actually wants to play it, I'd be proposing Terraria again. But we know how that went.

Alrighty then guys, I totally understand because I'm also on a very tight schedule these coming 2 months and also have some bills to pay so I won't afford to pay these months again, nor supervise it.

I'm going to archive the world on the server and share it on Dropbox, for anyone who wants in the future to start a server again and maybe start where we left off.

TWHL Minecraft World March-May 2016.-

The server has been cancelled. Thanks for the time together!

On another note, @Tawnos: I remember you posted a journal. Why not post some pictures with the beast?

I was actually going to suggest starting with, say, 3, 4 mods...

Guess not.

Thank you for your service, Striker, I really wish I could play more, but alas.

I can probably do 3-4 mods. Maybe on the next iteration.
