That is a clickbait title. Also the only reference they give in the text is a deleted domain.

Let's face it. If it ever exists, the only real way it can possibly happen by this point is it just showing up on Steam one day. They can't announce that shit anymore.

I hope you don't actually think that, Jessie. No company is that bad at advertising.

I'm waiting on Valve to make cool bots for Day of Defeat source like they did with CS Source
Posted 8 years ago2016-05-23 19:04:57 UTC Post #330203
And I'm waiting for Valve to make a decision about porting Day of Defeat to Source 2. It would be a nice idea.

I'm waiting for Valve to upgrade HL1 for VR compatibility. They have time, though, I won't have a VR headset for a while...

How could they not release Half-Life 3? It would be a guaranteed cash cow, and they have the resources to make it great.

I'd also be very interested in a Source port of DoD and the inclusion of bots to keep such an awesome mod alive.

You do know that Day of Defeat Source is a thing right?

Also, there are plenty of reasons why they wouldn't work on HL3. If nobody on the team is interested in that particular project and think their time would be better spent elsewhere for example.

Not to mention that HL3 now has an insane amount of hype to live up to. They would need to ensure that the game is nothing short of absolute perfection before releasing it.

I understood most of what he said:

Valve's inventor left the company in January 2016, did you forget that? We can't expect the next Half-Life game because he is old, and he's also ill, that's why we can't expect its release. Please pay some respect to Valve. I think there are no newer releases than Half-Life 2. Please use another engine like Unreal Engine 4.9 / 5.0 or other so we can continue with other engines. But please don't revert to the old Half-Life (GoldSRC) engine.

Do you know who remade Half-Life 2? For example: City 17 to Unreal Engine 4.9 / 5.0 because it looks very realistic, along with the grass on the ground like in real life. That is why Valve Software can not get a chance t develop a good and a stable engine. I surely think Half-Life 3 has stopped development. No, Half-Life 3 won't come out. We'll only have Half-Life 2 and its Source engine.

Source 2 looks like Dragon World or Age of Empire 3 with a rotating camera view. Source 2 is not built for single player. Tiled map versions only look like 2D tiled maps but with a rotating camera view.

Huff... puff... can't... I'm too tired of translating. I think I should become his "Understand-inator 4000", who makes everything understandable.

But... Gabe is still at the company, and Harrington left in like, '02. I haven't heard of any illnesses from the company, either.

Also there's no such thing as Unreal 5.0 yet. Version numbers don't follow decimal float format, we're on 4.12.5 - and that shouldn't have any bearing on Valve not being able to make an engine. They have programmers, they didn't all to to Epic.

He must be referring to Marc Laidlaw leaving the studio. He was there for 9 years after the last Half-Life title, I think it's very unlikely he didn't have some serious work done on the next one.

Also don't judge Source 2's capabilities from the DOTA 2 tools. Those tile tools are unique to that SDK. They're absent in the recent VR workshop tools, and both of these SDKs are scaled down for their limited purposes.

I hope you're not telling that to me, because I'm just helping others understand what this guy said.

Although, I would say that DOTA 2 tools really are specific for themselves.

Let's just wait until the FPS version of Source 2 comes out/becomes heard of.

Marc Laidlaw was a writer, not an inventor, CEO or founder.

Yeah, Mark Laidlaw wrote the story. Chances are that if HL3 is a thing in any way shape or form, the story is likely finalised already.

It's rare that you completely cut ties with a company instantly upon leaving, and he likely remains in touch with the odd advisory note...

little combine pun in there
