Sure, only when I can find the plug for my scanner though :

Anyway, I have been mapping part of the city lately. Here are the screens so far: (At the moment the sky is set to the hl city theme, but I'll change that soon.)

Various parts of the different shops/buildings are destroyed due to previous looting and chaos. The lights are not active because there isnt any power in the city, apart from the Underground systems controlled by the Upper Hand. I am currently working on a way to block the roads, probably as I mentioned before by using jacknifed lorrys or burning tires etc. I will also place in those barrels with flames everywhere (the only source of light/heat for the contestants)

As for the weaponry of the Upper Hand, definately much better arsonal, because they are far from primitive/basic. It could be that they once managed to kidnap and use the technological minds of scientists from outside the city, and therefore able to produce various high-tech stuff etc. They could be doing their own zombie experiments, etc.

Oh, one more thing, I must credit AnImE PiMp for the extremely wrecked-looking supermarket. I had to use the prefab because it was so useful for what I needed. All I did was change some of the structure, and use my own textures.

:o Those screens look amazing
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-20 12:25:50 UTC Post #43178
the glass is the only problem. something needs to be done about the glass.

Jahzel, again you created really good pieces of work.
But these screenies still look a bit empty. I don't know if the r_speeds allow more detail.
Could you post the r_speeds with your screenies?
As for the glass, just reduce the renderamount and use a darker/dirtier texture.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-20 15:00:47 UTC Post #43214
Very excellent. I agree with Haz, though, the screens look a little empty. I think some detailing such as a few road signs, broken streetlights, or as you said, jacknifed vehicles, burning tires and such.
rabidmonkey, can you make texture all drawn by yourself.??
I don't have a drawpad, so I just modify bits of my photos and royalty free reference images online and end up with bits of things like in my texture pack. Some of the textures are horribly useless to most mappers (Like teh eagle wall) but theyre in there just for the heck of it. Once I get my digicam working I can get some more uploaded.

Awesome abandoned city Jahzel, finally a scary environment that doesn't use fog. Nice.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-20 15:18:15 UTC Post #43226
Yeah. Fog sucks. Everyone thinks it makes the map scary! But most of the time it doesn't! :x

Jahzel: Good looking, alittle dodgy texture aligning on pic3 though.

What textures are you using for that? I suppose your own..? If so, upload them somewhere, we want to share the joy ;)

PS. I've been away for 6 days, so I havent read all the latest posts.

Hehe, jahzel, I assume you got that glass idea from my abandoned map :D The glass does look to clean, and since when is there blue glass? Try using a white coloured like generic027, or edit the one you are using now with wally, simply change the pallet to grey and white. Make sure you make the FX amount very low though, probably around 40ish should look mighty fine. Screenies look very nice though, keep up the good work :D

Oh, and jahzel, I recommend you make yourself a seperate site, not for the mod, but for yourself. It doesn't have to be to complicated. Something like Rabid's would be fine. I like those textures in your screenies, and I'm sure a lot of people like them too. I think that people would appreciate you uploading things like textures and things to your web site so they are easier to access, as well as the fact that if someone wants your textures, you don't need to email them, you simply tell them your sites url. :)

How can there be broken glass windows, without glass on the floor. Doesn't make much sense.

And the robber, threw a brick through the window, and smashed it. Mysteriously, there was no glass on the floor inside the shop. The robber was trying to think how this was possible, when all of a sudden, he thought too much and his head exploded :D

Oh, and I don't think the windows should be THAT broken. In my opinion, it almost doesn't look like a window. Make the glass shards on the edges of the window a bit bigger, I think it might look better. That's just me though. Maybe stuff around with my ideas, and if you don't like it, simply change it back.

lol, maybe the robber was too tidy?

Ah, don't worry about that city map, It was mainly just an experiment to see if it was possible to use my textures for the city, I dont think I'll do more to the map, I will basically do another -- better ;)

Do you need to have at the very least, frontpage, if let's say, you are making a site to be free hosted on '.tk' ? Like trapts for instance
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-22 07:58:54 UTC Post #43713
no, you need notepad to make a website.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-22 08:12:17 UTC Post #43717
In that case, I have no chance ;)
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-22 09:11:08 UTC Post #43728
im making it in macromedia dreamweaver MX.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-22 09:12:29 UTC Post #43730
Yep either notepad or proton32.
Don't use any Programs that make it 'easier' to create a website.
Just learn HTML, it is really extremely easy.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-22 10:31:16 UTC Post #43752
it is really extremely easy.

Man, when I saw the sort of code stuff you do it just looked like this:

Dude making a website in HTML is a pain in the ass - that HTML For Dummies Book has collected dust from the last time I attempted at it. FLASH is the way to go when trying to make a cool site!

Hey I'm making a texture pack that I am hoping you will all like, hopefully u will see it in a day or 2

I used frontpage for my site, And I think it came out mighty fine. Or you could just download a template and use that, its heaps easy and looks good.

I recommend using dhost as a web host. Only one popup per hour, no matter how many people look at it, plus it has this:
  • 100MB webspace
  • 300GB bandwidth/month
  • full FTP access
  • php + mysql
  • you're allowed to have downloads
  • more bandwidth or space on request
Then you could simply .tk it or .cjb.net it. However, .tk does have popups, not sure about .cjb.net, I think they do.

Or you could just keep it as dhost.info/jahzel. Doesn't really matter, its really not that long of a url anyway. And if you save the site to your favourites under 'Jahzel' you just type Jahzel into your address bar and it will go there.

Davideo59 is right, Flash is way cool on a site :D

New textures uploaded.

I didnt post a link on the index page, so just go:

http://dhost.info/RabidMonkey777

first, and once youre there, add /rm_textures2.zip on the end, and it should work. If you have hotlink issues, to to my photos page and try it from there.

I have the textures from my compo entry on my site. Including the glass texture which I used. I think Jahzel should use my glass texture, as the glass in the screenies looks wierd, and the ones I use seem to look alright when its all shattered and broken :) The textures also have the walls which might come in handy and it has rusty vent textures, which should come in handy if you want to use vents, because I doubt an abandoned city would still have shiny, clean vents :D

Get the textures here: www.traptsmapping.tk - go to files or there is a link to the download in the maps section (in the description of abandoned map)

Not bad, Trapt. I like the vent ones....10x better than mine. Although I'll get you a more rusty texture for the rust if you want. (strangely enough, its modified from a texture from a map titled 'Rapid Deployment- Abandoned'. Swat3, for anyone who cares. )

Im working on a military blockaded bridge right now. from what it looks like. it probably be a good escape route. i have triggers set so when you make it over the first barakade the military detonate the middle of the bridge. and you know how you said eairlyer that you can't give the player total freedom. well you could give them the freedom to try and make a dash to escape the city anytime they wanted but make it hard enough where it would only be feseable if you are well equiped. as in alot of the better weapons to take care of the tank on the bridge and all the grunts trying to prevent you from leaveing
